Got my laptop switched over to . Generally I am quite satisfied with how fast you can go from blank machine to a working system. I did notice a few things that are rather off putting even though I am used to manual Linux From Scratch installs 😅

As for the Nix configuration I probably hit the jackpot instantly as a Gnome user. Configuration tells you to use some xserver settings but then the wiki tells you in case of Gnome xserver would mean Wayland. Would have hoped for actual Wayland names settings.

The NixOS documentation is quite scarce when it comes to partitioning, UEFI, SecureBoot and using LUKS. If you add LVM to the mix (IMHO LVM+LUKS with SecureBoot on UEFI is normal), it comes down to knowing Linux or giving up. While I did discover the tools for partitioning I did Resort to manual partitioning since tooling seemed a bit weird.

Finally, when it comes to stable/unstable features on my feeling of trust was also not elevated since flakes and search command both are marked unstable but it seems to depend on who tells you that 😅 meaning Wiki and Git repositories have differing opinions.

Overall I do like the approach and the resulting system. For new users seems not yet ready unless you are rather confident in many low level tools other distributions like Fedora or Ubuntu hide from you. Will keep going to see if I can produce a nix configuration repo for more reproducible deployments.

I sucessfully reverse engineered 3.3.5a to fix the awful scaling of the damage numbers that was bothering me since ever.

Turns out, they have a flag called EGxStringFlags_FixedSize which wasn't used. It disables the scaling and makes the numbers appear a little smaller but crystal clear! Wohoo!

@fell @WesThompson could make a generic patcher and let people compile and patch themselves. Too many secrets in the community lost to time already

@gsuberland they are making decisions all the time. But the same rule as for wealthy companies applies: after arriving at a certain level of wealth and cash, it can offset and pay for any stupid decision and nullify any consequences. See car manufacturers and emissions scandal. 😅
