"****** is the Tesla of Customer Success Platforms!"

So your software randomly catches fire and crashes into things?

Someone mentioned on Reddit that has a lot of looking for people to help with MVP work. I'm always interested in doing that kind of thing (rather than the usual legacy code jobs I get paid to do).

But I have never seen any such startups on Linkedin. Just an endless stream of corporate stuff and people (or ChatGTP) grinding out "aspirational" garbage. Maybe my filters are set up wrong?

This is really disturbing to read. Reminds me of every idiot tech bro CEO, only in charge of a submarine instead of some app.

Larry Hama, who invented GI Joe, is still working at 75 because he can't afford to retire.

The suits will always screw you. If you are an artist, they will screw you out of royalties. If you are a startup employee, they will screw you out of shares. They will screw you out of your pension, your benefits, your severance.

Some idiot on here claiming that Russia and China don't sponsor genocides.

I mean I suppose they don't need to, they can just do the genocides all by themselves.

Expecting rational actors from an industry that embraced Scrum is a bit of a stretch.

Fixing an issue with a React component whose job it is to handle the cookie consent banner. It's 3rd party so I'm looking at the implementation source code.

It's like dozens - I'm not joking - dozens of modules in package after package, including storybooks and test suites and whatnot.

I implemented a cookie consent banner in my side project in about 10 lines of Python code using HTMX, not including the HTML snippet.

This industry has become a joke.

Periodic reminder: when starting a complaint with "hey web developers, do/don't do X..."

Change "web developer" to "designer" or, even better, "product manager". We're at the bottom of the totem pole of decision making.

If you want to take a pot at one of my side projects, please do so! Otherwise it's likely a decision I had no hand in and probably raised a pointless objection myself about.

You just come across as a Karen who yells at the food server about the opening hours.

providing a practical example of "moving the goalposts".

He's leveraging Swedish NATO membership for all its worth.

Why though would Hungary be blocking membership? It has nothing strategically to gain.

Unless of course it's a Russian puppet state that should have been expelled from the EU years ago.

If Britain were like Russia there would be at least three False Charles and maybe a False Kate starting rebellions in the provinces by now.

Threads, to British viewers of a certain age, was not a social media app but a documentary about major improvements being made to Sheffield city centre thanks to the Soviet Strategic Rocket Forces.

(Apparently they nuked Sheffield to knock out the steel industry, which was puzzling as I thought they could have just let Thatcher do it for them).

Interesting to see how the sausage is made re government projects.

The sheer amount of inefficiency and poor outcomes resulting from rigid bureaucracy is quite something. Even when those decisions have really good intentions around things like accessibility and security.

For example, we have to use a mandated design library. Fine, only a) it's in React 🤮 and b) it's buggy as hell. We have to use an auth service even for local development which requires all kinds of bootstrapping.

I'm amazed at how low salaries are for tech workers in the UK, compared to peer nations with similar cost of living.

It feels like this is a cultural rather than economic thing: social status and pedigree are valued more than skills (hence why low productivity, why bother being productive when you won't be rewarded for it?)

I've found this https://tinysubversions.com/notes/reading-activitypub/ a good starter to

I am wondering though, if you have two completely different kinds of sites (say, Mastodon and Funkwhale instances), what benefit does ActivityPub bring? Does interop work when the content is so different?

Added a check to my project today.

In this case, it raises a warning if the Django admin URL is "admin/" (this can be changed in an environment variable in my project).

A very useful and maybe not much used feature.

I must say I'm not a fan of "space feudalism" setting of classic 3rd imperium

I get that it builds on existing scifi up to the 1970s e.g. Dune, Mote in God's Eye etc. But Americans seem to love feudalism in SF; as a Brit, I thought having lords and ladies and social status felt like Jane Austin in space rather than something futuristic.

The VCs have long since outgrown their usefulness to society. Their brains have turned to mush, whether it's the drugs, the money or just living in the same suffocating bubble too long.
