So, uh... Am I using Mastodon wrong? Are favorites not supposed to be used as likes? Have I been rude for favoriting instead of boosting other people's toots?

That moment when your fertility rites focused on rabbits and eggs and are calculated each year according to the position of the moon get their christian spirit spoiled by a secular celebration with a set date.

Although I am still not sure if the implication was that Jesus was a rabbit or that he laid eggs. Or both? Being a deity has its perks, I imagine.

It bothers me a lot that space marines in are described as posthuman. They clearly, obviously are not.

dawngreeter,
@dawngreeter@dice.camp avatar

@LeviKornelsen I can see that being interesting. Personally, I enjoy them being portrayed as legacy systems, when it is well done.

But of course, they are mostly a magical power fantasy with no reality anchors and that is very, very boring.

If you're paying for shipping via Backerkit and your card expires before they charge you, does Backerkit send you an email asking you to update your CC info? Or do I have to figure out which projects I backed are impacted?

#BackerKit #KickStarter #CrowdFunding

dawngreeter,
@dawngreeter@dice.camp avatar

@Tim_Eagon I am pretty sure they notify you on a failed charge and you have a certain amount of time to fix it.

However, I am trying really hard to remember the specific instance when this happened to me and I can't. I think it did - I had a card expire and I am nearly certain that this is how it happened both for KS and Backerkit, but take it with a grain of salt.

I just realized unborked Luke Cage (he costs 3 now but protects all cards again instead of just one location). So I'm back on my Wong Hazmat shit. Just won a game with 1 power in two locations and -5 in a "Least Power wins" location and didn't use Luke Cage at all.

dawngreeter,
@dawngreeter@dice.camp avatar

@rivetgeek I was really into it when it launched and still think the core gameplay is pretty great. But then after a few months I dropped it cold because earning super rare cards felt like a scam.

Has that improved at all?

dawngreeter,
@dawngreeter@dice.camp avatar

@rivetgeek So you just... play the game purely for personal enjoyment? Craziness! 🤣

dawngreeter,
@dawngreeter@dice.camp avatar

@rivetgeek Hah, Ingress will do that. I never got very deep into it, but know a few people who did and... yeah. Yeah.

dawngreeter,
@dawngreeter@dice.camp avatar

@rivetgeek This is 100% what I would expect to hear. A friend had a person follow him around the city, in a car, late at night. Park and shine headlights at him when he'd attack portals. (My friend was walking).

People are strange.

dawngreeter,
@dawngreeter@dice.camp avatar

@rivetgeek Yeah... That one definitely takes the cake. Holy shit.

I hope he got counseling at some point.

Slowly finding it less and less fun to engage with very specific prognostications of "Exactly how Wizards is going to fuck up it's shit".

Because, like, one of the many, many theories will be very possibly be right, sure. But we don't NEED to predict specifics? We know the underlying cycle now, because it's everywhere in business, making things shit.

The daily and dismal news of the great enshittening has ruined the fun of trying to predict any particular for me.

dawngreeter,
@dawngreeter@dice.camp avatar

@LeviKornelsen I am sure there's a number of very well paid people thinking up many scenarios for how to turn it to shit as we speak. I wouldn't be surprised if Enshittening Specialist becomes a title by 2025.

But yes, impossible to predict a scenario when they are so prolific about different ways to do it.

Speculative fiction prompt.

With the current trend of generative tools gobbling up everything available and distilling it down into raw gibberish, the next step is training to avoid predatory scraping. One misstep of leaking public access to enough of your data and immediately an army of your simulacra are contacting millions for the next few days. Then the incestuous data predation between generative AI platforms turns this, too, into information equivalent of grey goo and the hunt continues.

dawngreeter,

@rivetgeek Well I take offense at this, good sir. EBM is CLEARLY more wowy-yowy than oontz-oontz. And, in turn, oontz-oontz OBVIOUSLY more closely represents Industrial Dance.

So there.

Seeing a lot of talk about spam but zero actual spam. I guess either dice.camp is uninteresting to spammers or we have amazing moderation. Or, likely, both.

dawngreeter,
@dawngreeter@dice.camp avatar

@Tim_Eagon That makes sense. Definitely appreciative of the admin effort, there.

Though, obviously, makes one wonder what it'll look like when spammers get more powerful tools.

As the US approaches the third election in a row where the entire country would rather have none of the above, one has to marvel at the iron grip boomers have on the society. They will literally die holding the reigns.

Please follow me on Bluesky, it’s very cool, it belongs to a billionaire but is decentralised. Or at least, the billionaire promises us it will be, which is cool."

dawngreeter,
@dawngreeter@dice.camp avatar

@ploum Mastodon's big problem is that there is no corporation with an eccentric CEO who would give themselves the title of Mastodon Mammoth or something, talk to the press how their stock will go up due to a dream they had yesterday, hype up investors and show up in tech biz news feeds.

I mean, for me, that's a feature. But capitalist machinery does not know what to do with things that aren't for sale. Let us recall that PC gaming got revived almost entirely due to Steam.

Like every aspiring author, I too have spent countless hours researching the perfect mechanical keyboard for long typing sessions.

You just can't start seriously writing using the gaming mechanical keyboard you already have. Imagine what the post-Nebula winning interview would look like when you get asked which keyboard you used.

dawngreeter,
@dawngreeter@dice.camp avatar

@rivetgeek I did look into that one! Nice to hear a positive personal experience with it.

Though for starters, I'm actually considering a portable one to use with an e-ink tablet for minimal distractions, away from the computer. Also, possibly, because it is more convoluted and buys me additional time before I face the fact I am scared shitless of actually attempting to seriously write.

On a whim got the first Age of Sigmar audiobook to listen to while driving. I don't really know what I expected, but this ain't it.

The entire thing is basically a single tabletop battle. It seems to me that someone actually played it and paid someone to overwrite the shit out of the battle report, with more descriptions of weapon swings than you could fit inside a thesarus focused exclusively on medieval warfare and surprise emotes.

Yes yes, it's a wargame, but can we have a story?

dawngreeter,
@dawngreeter@dice.camp avatar

"Named Captain lifted his named weapon and swung fiercely. The hit connected with all the ferocity of four sixes being rolled. Surrounding enemy warriors balked at this improbable display and gritted their teeth in resolve as if to say - our morale check just passed.

Meanwhile, the opposing general was dismayed at the inefficient expenditure of points. Next time, he gleefully thought to himself, new codex will have been published and his warriors will have better rules."
