@nixCraft you must be using React Native. Because that is what life is like with that POS.

I’ve been rebuilding a #RaspberryPi installation that supports my classic Mac habit 😄

I used to use the awesome #MacIPGW image which includes a ton of pre-configured software like #netatalk. But it hasn’t been updated in a while so I used it as excuse to start from scratch.

I used this Pi Zero W as my starting point. HDMI video stopped working on it for unknown reasons. I added an Ethernet/USB hub hat and a #TashTalk 2 hat for #LocalTalk devices.

Apple got fined $2B for its illegal pre-DMA conduct on this issue, and still thinks it can withhold 'following the law’ until you sign up for an entitlement, a 27% Apple tax, and give Apple audit rights to your company. Which is all completely illegal under the DMA.

lol

The fines can't come quick enough or heavy enough.

@stroughtonsmith “So if Spotify puts a link in its app and a user clicks it and subscribes, Spotify would owe Apple a 27 percent commission”

Does that mean that if someone tapped that link and subscribed to Spotify, Apple gets 27% every month of the subscription period?

dbarros,
@dbarros@mastodon.social avatar

@stroughtonsmith Apple is acting more like the mobster that comes to your business to demand monthly protection money.

@georgeharito I've been browsing some of the Laracasts, and I must say, having solid PHP frameworks sure is tempting. As opposed to living int he React/React Native hell I live in.

These JavaScript kids switch frameworks every other day.

@georgeharito Vue.js is also interesting. Maybe a bit too close to Angular (which I just don't get, and hence don't like (?!))

My possibly controversial opinion is that mayonnaise brings nothing useful to the creation of a grilled cheese sandwich. Everything it claims to do, butter already does better, salted butter doubly so.

dbarros,

@Meyerweb only recently did I learn that some Americans use mayo in a grilled cheese sandwich. Butter is the better option. Embrace butter.

@gruber The new Apple Style Guide you linked-to. If you open the PDF in Safari on macOS, press CMD-F, search for the word 'title', does the browser tab freeze-up on you?

It does on mine. Cannot find anything in the PDF, cannot scroll the document, nothing. Works on Firefox and Chrome.

@jensimmons I noticed something interesting (at least to me) with Apple’s new documentation site.

The blue rectangle below is shown when I select an option. But it only shows in Firefox and Chrome. Is this as a result of ambiguity in the standards that two browsers do it this way, and Safari does not show it?

dbarros,
@dbarros@mastodon.social avatar

@georgeharito @jensimmons Thanks for the details. I just found it curious and wondered whether it was the old thing of browsers interpreting specs differently (whether due to ideals, or due to interpretation on vague docs).

You're right, Safari completely skips all the image icons for the various products, whereas FF/Chrome focus on each one.

Safari only highlights the down arrows in the menu items (pic 1), where FF/Chrome focus on the label (pic 2) and down arrow separately as you Tab.
