@gruber The new Apple Style Guide you linked-to. If you open the PDF in Safari on macOS, press CMD-F, search for the word 'title', does the browser tab freeze-up on you?

It does on mine. Cannot find anything in the PDF, cannot scroll the document, nothing. Works on Firefox and Chrome.

@gruber I've been experiencing some bad performance issues with Safari lately.

@jensimmons I noticed something interesting (at least to me) with Apple’s new documentation site.

The blue rectangle below is shown when I select an option. But it only shows in Firefox and Chrome. Is this as a result of ambiguity in the standards that two browsers do it this way, and Safari does not show it?

dbarros,
@dbarros@mastodon.social avatar

@georgeharito @jensimmons Thanks for the details. I just found it curious and wondered whether it was the old thing of browsers interpreting specs differently (whether due to ideals, or due to interpretation on vague docs).

You're right, Safari completely skips all the image icons for the various products, whereas FF/Chrome focus on each one.

Safari only highlights the down arrows in the menu items (pic 1), where FF/Chrome focus on the label (pic 2) and down arrow separately as you Tab.

    @decryption @georgeharito I've also stopped reading Daring Fireball. It's really just a mouthpiece for Apple -- and, as you say, anything interesting going on in the tech world will appear in better publications/blogs out there.

    “But Epic broke the rules” is not a defense of Apple’s behavior. As per the EC, Apple’s developer agreement contains clauses that are now and always have been illegal. Epic ‘broke’ the terms of an illegal contract in order to, among other things, test its legality in court and in regulation. We have our answer now: Apple’s terms were illegal. Epic was right to break them. I care nothing for how much money Epic makes, how its leadership tweets, or how Epic’s deals with console makers are worded

    Hello , (regarding CVE-2023-52071)

    Well, first I of course think that the "burden of proof" would be on the person that insists that there is a problem. The one saying that this is a should provide the necessary details to explain "beyond reasonable doubt" that the identified problem is a vulnerability. There are no such details or explanations provided in the existing CVE. There is nothing there that identifies a vulnerability.

    @bagder love the solution: “Relax. Use curl as usual”

    What is it with people that fill their car at the petrol station and leave their car at the bowser while they also go in a get themselves a pie, a drink... FFS people, move your car to the parking bay then do that.

    I’m at the stage now where I just skip over podcast chapters that are dedicated to Apple’s Vision Pro. And if the podcast doesn't have chapters, I just mark it as listened and then delete the podcast episode.

    dbarros,
    @dbarros@mastodon.social avatar

    @georgeharito I do the same. But for any topic where a podcast does have chapter markers, just skip things I think will be fluff or just something I’m not interested in.

    dbarros,
    @dbarros@mastodon.social avatar

    @georgeharito Pocketcasts has a nice feature that you can make it skip to the next/previous chapter by tapping your car radio Seek Track buttons.

    dbarros,
    @dbarros@mastodon.social avatar

    @georgeharito No. I have an old radio/CD player in my car.

    dbarros,
    @dbarros@mastodon.social avatar

    @georgeharito Works via Bluetooth to the car stereo. Can’t recall if it also worked when connected to it via USB cable.

    dbarros,
    @dbarros@mastodon.social avatar

    @georgeharito Ah! OK. This is the setting in Pocketcast

    dbarros,
    @dbarros@mastodon.social avatar

    @georgeharito Although Overcast doesn’t do chapter skipping via those options, which is something I miss from Pocketcast. I recently switched to Overcast from Pocketcast

    dbarros,
    @dbarros@mastodon.social avatar

    @georgeharito Wonder if this would work in your car? Maybe there are smaller adapters. https://amzn.asia/d/9l11Pn5

    dbarros,
    @dbarros@mastodon.social avatar

    @georgeharito I've thought about doing something similar in getting an aftermarket CarPlay to replace my stereo that came with the car. I assume there are people out there that can do that for me (haven't looked yet) -- as it's not a job for me to do, as I'm sure I'll mess it up and end up with big holes on my dash and dangling wires all over the place.

    The most depressing part was watching way too many people and ex-friends defend the genocide and split hairs over human suffering.

    @Migueldeicaza They said “prevent genocide”. Different from “stop their genocide”.
