@cyberlyra right, because literally every smart phone isn't doing this already with the ability to control it left in the hands of giant companies? At least this is making clear attempts at privacy and cloud independence.
But what is the actual PROBLEM with Mastodon?? Said one hundred dozen people over several months of threads here. So I wrote it up.
It's too long, but we got bad doors, stilt-walking French shepherds, water bugs, a bunch of @/shengokai@zirk.us quotations, What The Fuck Is Up With Bluesky, and more.
Getting rid of yet another shitty skylight window! 👍
I hate these roof windows with passion, I wish they did not talk me into buying 10 windows. Now another one is gone and as an added bonus, there is now more space on the roof for future solar panels.
Most of my photos these days are made with either a cumbersome camera that lives in a Pelican case and requires a tripod or with my phone. (I sometimes also use 35mm-format mirrorless, especially when I need longer lenses).
I used to carry a "pocket" camera, like the Sony RX100 or Fuji X100, both of which are excellent. But I found a few years ago I just never used them. Either my (more convenient) phone was sufficient, or I wanted a more flexible, interchangeable-lens camera.
@mattblaze I'm not a skilled photographer but used to take a quality mirrorless and a few prime lenses for travel. Finally got a nice zoom so it was down to one heavy lens. Last trip I only brought the phone. Partly due to location security but w/o a tripod the value of the better glass + hours of Lightroom is losing the competition against the small ubiquitous device w/ computational capabilities. Soon w/image diffusion + context aware + you don't even have to go on vacation for great pics.
My decision about whether to try Bluesky depends on what everyone else does. I just want to be where everyone else is, and not be around too many Nazis. My needs are simple.
