Whenever I make feature request to developers, I try to be constructive and nice about it - but this is the most positive feedback I think I've gotten on one. 😅

(The app in question is Empty Fasting Timer - a delightful little app for $1, that I can recommend if you want a simple and beautiful app for that use. https://apps.apple.com/app/id6475213946)

@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@havn That's great!
It would be fun to read what you said.

Interesting if you type “Empty Fasting Timer” into the MAS you get a totally different developer.

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@havn No - the link didn't work the first time, it just brought me to a generic store. So I typed it in. Then the next time it worked 🤷‍♂️

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@havn It works every time for me now - of course. Not sure what happened.

I'm just learning about building widgets from @seanallen_dev 's course. I see lock screen widgets are coming up.

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@havn @seanallen_dev Thanks! it does look interesting - that was a great onboarding experience too.

Interesting that I don't see how to get the Widgets to show up. It doesn't show up in the lists of widgets to add.

Apple Dev question: On the need to give out an address - Do you get much mail? I would hope anything from Apple is done electronically.

BTW this is a great article from @revenuecat on the topic with options for mailboxes and phone numbers. https://www.revenuecat.com/blog/growth/am-i-a-trader-and-other-existential-questions-for-developers/

Really enjoyed watching “Wednesday" on Netflix again.

Such a great addition to the ADD-4M5 Family line of shows!

So many great characters, costumes, one-liners, suspense, music and the cliff hanger ending! Yes the suspense IS killing me for the next season in 2025?

I didn’t know that - I always thought the code wasn’t compatible with the new iOS- Thanks!

Back to the questions that science does not ask, not because they aren't important, but because science as a way of knowing is too narrow for the task. (1/3)

@GeekAndDad interesting! This is available on hoopladigital as an ebook & audiobook. And there’s a “for young adults” version.

How do you stay productive every day?

It’s wild that I can be super productive one day, and absolutely not the next

What do you do to be more consistent? (This isn’t clickbait, I’m actually wondering how ya do it)

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@mikaelacaron great thread! Thanks!

Todo lists and tracking spreadsheets help me a bit - but a lot of the ideas here about how you need to spread out productivity and vary tasks are what I do too.

Matching energy levels to tasks is another goal.

I always felt very self conscious about it, but I wish I had asked users for a review in Hand Mirror earlier.

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@rafa how did you end up doing it? After a certain amount of launches, or time? And do you limit how many times users see it?

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@rafa thanks - sounds like a good guideline. Although… I’ve seen some that come up again much later after lots of use and often I go to do a review and see the previous one I wrote.

Yay - inspector approved my hot water heater replacement install!
He was uncomfortable about one thing: the temp & pressure release valve not being plumbed to outdoors or directly to a drain. There are no drains nearby to plumb it too. The only near exterior wall is 10 feet below ground.
I’d read the code and it seemed like this was ok because concrete floor + a drain in the floor, but the distance to it made him uncomfortable.

He decided to let it go. <whew!>

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@GeekAndDad wow - mine isn’t but there is a sump pump not too far away

When the local TARDIS regenerates from being a woman back into being a man again.

A police box labelled “Coffee Joe’s”

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@jamesthomson what’s the function of this box? The general public can call the police there. Or it’s where the police go to call each other? Maybe it’s all vestiges of a past time - and it’s just a space for advertising?

@siracusa @atpfm relative to Microsoft Teams - some of us with jobby jobs didn't have Slack and instead were attempting to use WebEx 🤢😱So the rollout of Teams was a WONDERFUL thing!

Additionally, it seems like an embarrassment that Apple hasn't come out with a MS Teams competitor and especially for WWDC labs, etc… forces us to keep using WebEx.

I didn't know that Slack had live calling - is that new? I wonder why Apple doesn't use that for labs?

I cannot function as a human anymore without the iOS Reminders app and am constantly using Siri on my Apple Watch to create them.

Having on-device Siri has been so nice. The other day I set a reminder while I was in airplane mode on a flight and I realized that it didn't matter. It just worked when previously it wouldn't have.

Installed a new water heater yesterday because I didn’t want to pay $1100 to have someone install a $900 water heater. It does take a fair bit of time, but isn’t actually “difficult.”

Still need to add the seismic straps and a screw to hold the vent on, but we got hot showers without the gas leak which was nice 😛

Hope the inspector likes it well enough they don’t ask for changes. 🤞🏼

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@GeekAndDad Do you have a ground wire on the gas line? (they call this bonded) Apparently lightning struck a gas meter and that flexible gas line can't withstand that and blew up some houses. I was lead to believe this is required even if it's not possible to have a lightning strike.

I wasn't brave/skilled enough to install it myself. Did the old one weigh a lot? That was my other reason - I hear they can be very heavy when full of years of sediment.

Did you research the on demand heaters? 😳💸

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@GeekAndDad my look at the cost said that the initial cost and WAY higher monthly! maintenance made it not even close as compared to a gas hot water heater.

The Verge article on the best printer in 2024 is just completely brilliant in so many ways.

And also kinda sad.

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@mijndert @scruss @ross does Brother not have that?

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@ross That doesn't have a scanner does it?

Totally agreed that people love to bash HP.

I'm using HP instant ink and it's a fine subscription. You set how many prints you want and pay for it. The ink shows up and the printer seems to work. If I didn't need color or a scanner/copier and wanted to spend more I could move to a laser printer.

Some people seem to be really riled by the fact that ink cartridges from the subscription don't work after you stop paying. That's how it works.
