Elite Hoops hit 2.5k MRR today ๐Ÿ“ˆ

I have so many ideas and directions to take it to grow it even more. Here's hoping I hit my goal of 20k MRR sooner rather than later.

Some fun things:

  • The market is ripe for good software for basketball coaches.
  • I still haven't implemented core, highly requested features

Some hard things:

  • An institutional leader in the space released an app recently, eating heavily into my downloads.
  • Balancing Elite Hoops with other apps I wanna do.

Onwards!

@jordanmorgan Congrats!
For a minute I thought this was your soccer app!๐Ÿ˜ฒ

@marczak I see restaurants that use these vegan cheeses https://climax.bio/findus/ but not a place to buy them.

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@marczak Yeah - vegan cheese is pretty good now. I make a filled crust pizza that is really great.

I've also found that vegan mayo, cream cheese, and sour cream are almost indistinguishable from the dairy ones.

This $50 USB tester has been very useful!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CbKCVezzpYA

One โ€œfunโ€ realization that USB-A chargers deliver 5V - period. USB-C doesn't do that blindly since it needs to know what power to deliver. Soโ€ฆ the same cable plugged into a A to C adaptor can work fine, but do nothing when plugged into the same device from a Type-C charger ๐Ÿคฏ

The FNB58 also shows capability of batteries, compares cables & even shows a tiny oscilloscope trace of voltage, current & data lines.

@marcoarment@mastodon.social avatar

My iPhone 15 Pro doesn't hold onto USB-C cables very well anymore, and they always fall out or flake out.

(And I only use the USB-C port for Xcode and travel charging, so it's not from overuse.)

Anyone else have this happen? Is this most likely a "crap in the portโ€ 5-minute-fix-at-an-Apple-store situation, or a hardware-repair I'll-be-without-my-phone-for-some-days-and-need-to-move-into-an-old-one situation?

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@marcoarment to my eye (with magnification) the retention features on USB-C seem to have less engagement as compared to lightening.

Is there a metronome app for Apple Watch that keeps working when the screen sleeps? Pulse looks good but doesnโ€™t keep going when my arm goes down. Even turning the โ€œscreen to always onโ€ doesnโ€™t work (Pulse doesnโ€™t appear in the list of apps to show so maybe itโ€™s just too old to work right?)

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@GeekAndDad I realized a while ago I didn't have a metronome on my phone... your post got me to fix that just now. I got it going and then put my phone to sleep and it does keep going.

I typed in metronome and the app Pro Metronome showed up with a cloud download button. It says โ€œAccount status Free" so maybe I never paid.

This sort of pricing drives me crazy. Is it a subscription or not?

Price list Pro Version & Annual Plan $3.99 Montly Plan, Subdivisions, Practice mode, Rhythm Trainer, Polyrhythm, โ€œVibrate, Flash & Air Play, and Customizable tone generator are all separately listed at $0.99 Playlists are $1.99

@GeekAndDad sorry - I missed that watch bit. Apple doesnโ€™t let much keep going on the watch.

dxzdb,

@GeekAndDad mmm ๐Ÿ˜‹

I just found out via another recipe that toasting coconut - by itself - makes a great snack. Mixing it with a few chocolate chips and maybe some walnuts and it was like an instant bar cookie with very little work.

I need that wolfcraft drill guide - didn't know that existed.

Does that red right-angle screw driver have some sort of power drive?

I was going to say you need more screw drivers but that amazon set has a lot of choices.

I'd submit the โ€œKreg R3 Jr. Pocket-hole jigโ€ might help you with projects. Some of their drawer setting clamps are amazing too.

dxzdb,
@dxzdb@mastodon.social avatar

@mattgemmell Good to know about the Autoline - I do wonder how often you/I might need a hole at a different diameter than the ones offered.

That angle adaptor sounds very handy.

I use a Rigid JobMax tool for my impact driver. I also have replaceable heads for an oscillating saw, hammer, and sawsall.

Thanks for the tool details.

Hi @seanallen_dev couple requests for your Widget course:

  1. Could we get a channel for it in your slack? Maybe it's included somewhere else?

  2. It seems like Github changed the way API's work or something. I guess I could keep building along... but that

curl https://api.gethub.com/repros/sallen0400/swift-news
errors out with: Could not resolve host: api.gethub.com

Thanks!

I don't really give conference talks anymore, but I had this idea bouncing around my head for a while which I thought would make a good one. So I recorded it as though I was giving a talk.

The idea is around how to develop An Inclusive Mindset as it relates to product design. How to build software which is comfortably useful to as wide a spectrum of your users as possible. I then illustrate this with a variety of concrete examples from my work building Pedometer++.

This really highlights _'s point in his talk! By setting out to providing a continuum of text sizes, this is provided to people who don't know about the Large Content Viewer or don't get to 160%. Oh... & P++ also supports the LCV too - maybe by default of using SwiftUI?

๐Ÿ‘€Oh look who did this talk on the Large Content Viewer! https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2019/261/
