Visibility & discoverability

Visibility and discoverability have been much discussed topics recently, especially when Mastodon announced the introduction of a full-text search. Protecting users from abusive searches is a major concern. In the case where one instance follows another, this results in a different complexity of the problem, especially if there are two software applications that specialize in events but have a completely different approach to them, like Gancio, Mobilizon or a local community site run with WordPress.

We would like to find a common denominator for this problem and have therefore opened a topic on Socialhub. We look forward to everyone contributing to the discussion or just leaving some thoughts in the replies.

@rwg I would refrain from calling fediverse (or mastodon) a "platform". It's not more or less a platform as is E-Mail (or gemail for that regard). Facebook and X are platforms because they are closed gardens without interoperability, and the term was specifically coined to describe such services. The fediverse is a network, ActivityPub is a protocol and mastodon is a service within this network. @rra @commodon @academicchatter

@mwfc Ich glaub ArchLinux ist nix für mich. Ich mag mich nicht stunden lang mit dem OS darum streiten müssen bis raus kommt was ich will. Dafür geb ich lieber etwas Kontrolle auf, wenn das Handling von meinem OS einfacher ist.

Ursprünglich hab ich mal auf Ubuntu nichtmal die Kommandozeile ansehen müssen, aber das ist schon vorbei spätestens seitdem sie snap eingeführt haben.
