Joe Biden calls trans people “fabric of our nation” in Trans Day of Visibility proclamation (www.lgbtqnation.com)

In commemoration of the upcoming Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV), President Joe Biden issued a statement praising trans people’s contributions to society and describing actions his administration has taken to counter transphobic bullying and extremism. Additionally, many members of Biden’s Department of Health and Human...

eldavi,

These people really just can’t let someone say “hey maybe Joe Biden is obviously the better option to vote for.” It just really can’t be left alone without someone making a comment like the one I’m replying to right now. I see it in every thread

that’s because you’re either missing or dismissing the context of biden’s 2-faced behavior. he was one of the worst anti-lgbt polictians we’ve ever had in the modern era and it’s only recently that he’s switched sides once it became clear that screwing over lgbt wasn’t popular anymore just to get votes.

eldavi,

Wait, you mean he has evolved over time on the issue you’d like him to evolve on? Fuck him completely?

biden didn’t evolve; he switched once he realized that it was no longer popular to hate lgbt so he could get more votes

I said it in another comment, I agree Biden could do better on this topic. I also agree there are other candidates I’d rather vote for than Biden. But if we’re talking about Biden vs Trump, both sides are not the same, and it’s dangerous to several different communities to suggest so.

you’re the only one saying that both sides are the same; not me.

eldavi,

the reason(s) why he’s switched speaks to to heart of whether he’s actually pro lgbtq and how much different, if at all, he is than trump on this issue.

biden anti-lgbtq body of work is literally decades long where other contemporary politicians were and are still not and it makes sense to question his genuineness since he’s very much in need of votes in this election and only changed his tune when it benefited him politically.

Yellen says China's rapid buildout of its green energy industry 'distorts global prices' (apnews.com)

Yellen, who is planning her second trip to China as Treasury secretary, said Wednesday in Georgia that she will convey her belief to her Chinese counterparts that Beijing’s increased production of green energy also poses risks “to productivity and growth in the Chinese economy.”...

eldavi,

And if you get in their way, they’ll suicide you

fixed it for you

What are your favorite social minority characters in any form of fictional entertainment media, or how should a minority be written better?

It can be from any angle. Presently, I’m pondering what kind of context various LGBTQ+ characters can be written without making any kind of political statement, or rather, simply making a statement through normalization in a natural way. In other words, how do I empathize like the cool kids clique?...

eldavi,

Gus Fring. Not even confirmed as gay in Breaking Bad that I remember, but I see it was confirmed in Better Call Saul.

i’ve heard that fring was gay; but was never aware of it until recently. where was it confirmed?

i’m gay; i watched better call saul; and the only example i could think of was his relationship to his business partner; but if that’s all there was it was waaaay too subtle to be realistic.

eldavi,

Came here to say the same exact thing. Lol

eldavi,

I want to believe you but five decades on this earth remind me that what you say is just pie in the sky

eldavi,

That’s literally why there’s a Starbucks on every corner; they want the option of closing down up to 90% of them to keep away from Unions

eldavi,

The 1:1 windows:Linux replacement is just a means to keep you on Windows. Once you learn Linux, you’ll come to understand how much of a farce it is and how it’s designed to keep you away

eldavi,

that’s about 2 large sized big mac combos w refills from mcdonalds, it’s only difficult if you’re live somewhere without fast food or have your own dietary restrictions or your a observing jewish soviet russian living in siberia in the 1970’s

eldavi,

true communist (like true anything else) is only possible if there are no people involved.

eldavi,

It’s not stupid if it works

eldavi,

You should have seen Biden and the Dems unite w Republicans to make gay marriage and gay military service illegal the first time and they’ll keep doing it too

eldavi,

I was going to say something about giving it to gypsies and you could probably literally see European fervor to ban something. Lol

Texas Takes Attacks on Austin to New Level With “Death Star” Law (slate.com)

The goal of Death Star is simple. The deeply conservative Texas Legislature wants to effectively deny cities—the state’s large Democratic-leaning cities, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin in particular—the ability to pass local laws and regulations in eight major policy areas: agriculture, business and commerce, finance,...

eldavi,

It won’t go to SCOTUS, it’s all at the state level. Unless someone comes up with a US constitutional angle, or something.

to add to this: state lawmakers (especially texas) goes out of their way to make sure that there’s nothing in these proposals that could service as excuse for the federal gov’t to get involved because the state courts usually do what the state legislature wants.

i always thoughtt that the phoenix metro area suburbs were the worse examples of suburban sprawl and i’m gratified to learn that i’m not he only one who thinks so. lol

also this guys lives in a studio in the phoenix metro area; i can’t image how much that sucks.

eldavi,

Pueblo Bonito, a six-story structure in Chaco Canyon, contained up to 600 rooms, making it the largest building in North America until the first skyscrapers rose in New York some 800 years later. Mayan civilization is believed to have supported a population of more than 10 million people at its peak between 250 and 900 A.D.

forgetting about mesoamerican pyramids in one sentence and then mentioning some of the people who built them in the next; somehow this glaring mistake makes me want to dismiss the article all together because i have no way of know what else they’re getting wrong.

Did anyone try to return to reddit and notice it just didn't do it for you anymore?

So I’ve switched to lemmy since the reddit meltdown started, experienced quite some withdrawal symptoms, occasionally turned back to reddit, more often logged out than logged in. Now I am merely using Lemmy occasionally and by far not as often as I used reddit before. No more doom scrolling....

eldavi,

every time i go back to reddit there’s a blacklog of content waiting that somehow never makes it to the fediverse and a few things that were earth shaking and the fediverse didn’t pickup on at all.

eldavi,

this type of lazy between the ears thinking is making this worse for everyone; please consider stopping.

Why do people still recommend Thinkpads for Linux when there are Linux-oriented manufacturers now?

I’ve noticed in the Linux community whenever someone asks for a recommendation on a laptop that runs Linux the answer is always “Get a Thinkpad” yet Lenovo doesn’t seem to be a big Linux contributor or ally. There’s also at least six Linux/FOSS-oriented computer manufacturers now:...

eldavi,

It doesn’t make a lot of sense to support these alternatives given the absolute shock difference in cost. $300 bucks for a used T series gets you a lot from a customizability, repairability, and reliability standpoint.

  1. bios updates leaves you at the mercy of the manufacturer;
  2. not every bios and distro works w lenovo’s bios update utility;
  3. and your battery life & performance has a big dependency on your bios so using something that it’s not designed to handle (eg anything that’s not windows) will result in less than optimal results. 3.5) same goes for hardware eg nvidia
