    "Music inpainting is a common practice for composers to realize music ideas into actual music, in which new music ideas are infilled based on given parts of the music, often in an iterative manner." https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/abstract/document/10096446

    You write your basic music idea or ideas, then AI will take what you've created, duplicate and reshape it to complete the work.

    Pipewire is the Linux audio subsystem most likely to become dominant over the next few years. It's encouraging to see that there are already good resources springing up, such as this effects library. https://github.com/wwmm/easyeffects

    We're off to Italy in August and my Maschine+, while productive and portable, is too bulky to take along. I've decided to try my hand with Garageband on an 11" M1 iPad Pro, both as a notepad for song ideas and a playground for developing arrangements.

    Does anyone who's used Garageband on an iPad for this sort of thing have tips, pitfalls, suggestions?

    @etherdiver Thank you! I've heard Korg Gadget's good. I won't have any peripherals with me apart from a headset with a mic, so that plays a little into my choice. I'll check these options out, though.

    @revengeday I bought a laptop from France on eBay because it was only available there in the configuration I wanted. I don't know why HP made that decision. But be encouraged: it arrived here in Aotearoa New Zealand without any issue.

    I would love to get to know more female / nonbinary music artists on .
    Genre: can be anything. I don't want to limit it to one genre.

    So all tips very welcome!

    A digital audio workstation needs a graphical user interface that's fast and flexible. Developing that is not trivial, as the creator of the Meadowlark DAW explains. https://billydm.github.io/blog/daw-frontend-development-struggles/

    I wish Pete Townshend would stop, just for 5 bloody minutes, releasing new, quality editions of his back catalogue. I can’t afford this!!!!

    @ojala @jimbob We use the stock Reaper compressors a lot. Whatever DAW you're using will certainly have plugins that cover the most common use cases.

    Why do we still live in a world where I can't independently configure my laptop display and external monitor's scaling (100% and 150% respectively) in ? Or is this just an Ubuntu/Kubuntu problem?

    Under X11 both displays sync their scaling settings (awful experience when you have a 4K panel). And with Wayland both displays end up blurry, even after a reboot.

    I'm using the HP Dev One.

    Are there easy workarounds or should I finally make the permanent switch to ?

    @killyourfm I'm a Mint user and I don't have this issue.

    Got a weird little situation at home right now... A light that turns itself on. Our back bedroom/guest bedroom/second TV room has developed the habit, somehow, of turning on the lights. When no one is there. Or even on that floor.

    Now this house was worked on electrically by some enthusiastic amateur "electricians" at some point, and if the light was coming on with the switch in the off position, I wouldn't think anything of it... but the switch is up. It was left down.

    How?

    elsemusic,
    @elsemusic@musician.social avatar

    @etherdiver Tape the switch off using double-sided tape, and see if you collect any telltale fur or fingerprints.

    Fast forward to the end of the twenty-first century. Sea levels have risen appreciably, and in New Zealand the South Dunedin suburbs are now tidal mudflats. But along the way legends have been made within the boundaries of the former Borough of St Kilda. https://sidesister.bandcamp.com/track/legends-of-st-kilda
