I can't believe how voters keep electing the right-wing candidates, maybe the progressives moved out to Beaverton. Schmidt has gotten nothing but bad faith from the police and the republican city council isn't doing us much good either.

@TransitBiker the alt text maybe. Cable has the same plug on both ends, device has the same socket as computer. It's like USB C, but just wrong. IDK if that cable can break stuff or also work for host to host comm. ๐Ÿ˜‚

This hub motor wheel, controller and fancy two-way throttle are supposed to end up as an auxiliary motor on one of our Bosch bikesโ€ฆbut I bought the wrong adapter for a GSD and the brakes didnโ€™t line up very wheel on the Packster. So for a week or so, the vintage CAT Long Haul has turbo boost and magic regenerative anti-boost.

@kevinschaper ๐Ÿ˜• mine gave up after about a minute of 500W braking, it wouldn't brake any more until I reset the baserunner. I don't have any vibration issues though.

enobacon,
@enobacon@urbanists.social avatar

@lkanies I should have done the same but Barnes Rd and 217 is a hellish place to ride. Still, driving back from Beaverton took 15-20 min longer than it would have on a bike.

enobacon,
@enobacon@urbanists.social avatar

@lkanies it was nice today, indeed. I'll often ride from Hillsdale to Beaverton (either on BH-Hwy or Multnomah + fanno creek trail), where I have house and tree maintenance to do, but had other errands with it today and everything in that part of the metro is a shitshow of stroads and freeway offramps. I'm also low on cargo bike battery capacity for that 20-ish miles, and there's the issue of how to lock a bike full of tools outside home depot, I tend to just roll it in and use as the cart.

Exploring Facebook and found an old Texas honky-tonk down the street from where I used to live when I was a boy, decades ago.

There are photos of the place, along with a number of regulars who are tagged. Wouldn't it be interesting if I memorized all of their faces? I could show up and start greeting them by name.

That being said, it's in the heart of Texas. I'd be shot.

I think we need the who can't ride a bike in the rain (or when it's too hot or too cold or too far or too Wednesday) to pay up or GTFO.

just give me like five bucks or something for each driver that rolls past the stop sign at 15mph-ish before considering stopping, etc and I'll chill out about it

Mapps and the Portland millionaires club making deals about how to make 4th be a shitier bike lane than the plan already was, I just, these people, like just quit with the finger-tenting evil bullshit for a second.

enobacon,
@enobacon@urbanists.social avatar

this could be a case of the "business" group [parking garage owners and financiers] putting words in his mouth, and WWeek trying to lend legitimacy to the PBA [the alliance trying to rebrand themselves as the metro chamber of Capital or some crap]. But Mapps does seem prone to talking out of both sides of his mouth, seeking those endorsements/campaign checks. Loves to talk about riding his bike, but when it comes to making cars optional, his PBOT always comes up short.

wweek endorsing Schmidt's opponent matches my reading on their politics: progressive when the vote is clearly going that way anyway. But I'm curious what excuses Portland's (non-resident) police are going to make once they get rid the DA they've been sandbagging for 4 years.

I've been experimenting with the window AC/heat pump running off of the small solar battery inverter pack "generator", as in can I run it off-grid. It only goes for about an hour at 400W but might be able to run on solar panels at a constant 200W, except the AC, while able to infinitely-variable-inverter-drive itself, has no way to specify a max wattage, and sometimes reaches for 1200W ๐Ÿ˜’

enobacon,
@enobacon@urbanists.social avatar

What's the point of waiting for the temperature to be 3-4F off of the set point when you have an inverter drive? Is this stuff just slap-dashed together with whatever programs they had for the old single-stage unit? I need to figure out how to take control of this stuff whether it's a hack with the IR signal and power monitor + temperature + weather or whatever I could probably do if I enroll in the device's internet of shit dammit no make it stop

โ€œItโ€™s absurd for ODOT to claim that their proposed $1.9 billion 10-lane highway is in compliance with the cityโ€™s existing plans for #climateAction, sustainable #transportation investment or neighborhood development. We filed this lawsuit because state law requires ODOT to follow the cityโ€™s #cleanAir and climate goals. ODOT shouldnโ€™t be allowed to advance a project that brazenly violates the cityโ€™s adopted plans.โ€ -- #NoMoreFreeways #ODOTGTFOpdx #Portland

enobacon,
@enobacon@urbanists.social avatar

@whitemice it's like asking whether there are good cops. Or to the extent that these people exist, is it better for them to be working for the state or freelancing? IDK, but the rules DOTs have written for themselves are inherently a form of violence, mostly to the tune of coercion toward car use as a primary directive.
