I'm not saying an electric #cargoBike is going to solve every feminist issue in our cities, but it's a heckuva stroller/diaper bag/"sag wagon" for "encumbered travel". Being able to take kids to school or the park without having to park a car and then walk through the gauntlet of crosswalks and whatever, and they can jump out and run to the swings as soon as you get to the park sidewalk, etc. It's so great for kids to learn the neighborhood and mobility by bike.
Which is to say that DOTs need to do a better job for moms-on-#eBikes as a core service. Not like the designs for 20 years from now if-we-get-around-to-funding-it, actually go follow a mom on a #cargoBike around and make her trips better, now. #climateAction#InducedDemand#ClimateEmergency
@PedestrianError as a dad on a cargo bike, I'm concerned about and can see why women would feel less comfortable in some situations where we need to do better specifically for non-dad caregivers. This also applies to kids being able to ride on their own safely, and the liberation of that independence for parents and kids alike.
@PedestrianError I'm quite aware that most dads aren't out here with me either yeah. Survey says put stuff in the street and connect a low stress bikeway network.
We’re going to get a new dishwasher soon and looking at the specs on my #ebike, affordable trailers I could buy, and dishwashers at Ikea it is absolutely possible for me to tow this thing home myself.
We’ll probably get it delivered but man I really want to be that guy towing a dishwasher on a #bike. #BikeTooter
The store was having a sale on various sorts of brats and hot dogs last time I was there and I grabbed a bunch for the freezer and work is a lot this week and the weather is good so it’s easy to grill so we’re having those for dinner several nights this week and of course I decided to call it #sausageFest.
@thedorismith If you like to tinker and mod things, consider Lectric, RadPower, or many of the mail-order companies (a hub motor maybe okay if your hills are not steep or loads not very heavy) or a DIY conversion. If you want it to be somebody else's problem, and don't mind being locked into proprietary motor + controller + battery, bosch or shimano factory e-bikes like tern, or specialized, etc from your local shop (REI maybe). Definitely try to test-ride some various models.
@thedorismith There is a lot of variety in component quality, gearing range, whether it has hydraulic brakes (less maintenance) or the mid-drive motor vs hub motor where you don't have to deal with shifting a chain under high load but can't gear-down to climb steeper hills. Folding, suspension, weight, do you need to store it inside, is being able to lift it important?
@thedorismith@Andres4NY maybe you want a small utility or folding e-bike with a rack and bags or front basket (trek, rei, tern) and find one that adjustment + handling works. Most seem to fit 5ft+ riders, maybe swap handlebars or look for one with shorter reach (and crank arms.) For smaller: Brompton or there are some kid sized ones (woom?)
@thedorismith@Andres4NY do you currently have a bike that fits? Adapting that with a wheel motor kit may also be an option to do or have done by a shop. Simple ones like the hill topper front wheel might be plenty of power and only add about 15lb with the battery
I need to do something about this "8 pages of notifications about 15 clicks" thing in the mastodon UI. What app do I want? (chrome, linux, and/or android)
TIL that Cambridge DPW has summer interns doing new street-tree watering with this cargobike. The intern I spoke to said that they’re upgrading to e-cargobikes soon.
I need to get an 18in cut-and-hold pruner to carry on the #cargoBike for the blackberry vines around SW #Portland@ShawneMartinez do I need to cut down a 3ft one? 🩸 #Tigard
@ShawneMartinez I've done some riding with a hedger, but it really needs to be on some kind of mount, maybe with a counterbalance, so you can just move it around but it stays where you let go (hedger dropper post), release + cutting action button on handlebar! It seemed like mostly riding 15ft at a time and cut a few vines, some above, some on the side. Trike or maybe sidecar with a helper and you never quite stop might be the best.
@MolnarSteven I'm sure it's better than the outcomes of our gutter paint bullshit, that gets done with emergency vehicles as an excuse (and they get stuck in traffic)
@pleaseclap sooner action will prevent the next level of disaster from coming on top of that, and reversing carbon isn't going to be a magic rewind, but it will help.
With #perl core, is there actually a better way to write something like a package alias? (simulate a feature like this)
I am doing something like this now:
use MediaCluster::Utils::RoutePathInfo;
use constant RoutePathInfo => MediaCluster::Utils::RoutePathInfo;
RoutePathInfo->getResourceNameOf($objRouteContext);
I would prefer something like this:
use MediaCluster::Utils::RoutePathInfo as 'RoutePathInfo';
RoutePathInfo::getResourceNameOf($objRouteContext)
