For those losing their heads over today's actions by Judge Cannon, take a deep breath. This was always going to happen. The writing has been on the wall since Judge Cannon was drawn for the case. Getting all worked up about it is only going to make you crazy and desperate. The way we will rid ourselves of this menace is at the polls in November.

For a sober discussion on this topic this exchange today between @Teri_Kanefield and @JonChevreau is highly recommended:

@mastodonmigration @JonChevreau If only voting matters, has @Teri_Kanefield completely written off the US justice system? Only in the Trump cases, or altogether?

eurobubba,
@eurobubba@mastodonczech.cz avatar

@Teri_Kanefield @mastodonmigration @JonChevreau Not being snide, or even necessarily disagreeing with you. just trying to figure out where you’re coming from. No idea why you think I don’t understand judicial appointments. I have a feeling we’re at different places in the conversation.

eurobubba,
@eurobubba@mastodonczech.cz avatar

@mastodonmigration @JonChevreau @Teri_Kanefield Agreed — the implication being that parts of the existing judiciary as it stands now are irredeemably corrupt and effectively useless for accountability? (I’m no expert but from where I’m sitting SCOTUS seems to fit that description.)

eurobubba,
@eurobubba@mastodonczech.cz avatar

@mastodonmigration @Teri_Kanefield I apologize if that’s how it sounded; that was not my intent. I may just not have read enough of Teri’s stuff, but how it’s landing here is “don’t worry, the courts are just broken” which is confusing to me.

eurobubba,
@eurobubba@mastodonczech.cz avatar

@mastodonmigration @Teri_Kanefield Forget about me, I’m just some masto rando and it matters very little what I think, and I won’t waste anyone’s time trying to justify myself. But Teri has a platform and I do want to understand where she’s coming from.

If Apple didn’t already have iWork, Final Cut, or Logic, would they make them now? Kind of hard to imagine that kind of investment in new software from them. What even comes close in the last fifteen years?

@collin Freeform? Does anyone use that?

It’s too bad a lot of the cool Apple Wallet features seem to kind of die on arrival.

I would love to have order tracking automatically in the Wallet app, but considering the Apple Store doesn’t even support it, that feels unlikely.

Having your drivers license in there would be great too, and I don’t blame Apple for this, but I suspect Oregon and a lot of others states are never going to support it. Hope I’m wrong 🤞

@collin Well, handing your unlocked phone to a cop is not really the best idea, even if you've got "nothing to hide".

    @schwa Did you have to reset your password? If so how long did it take? I’m being told “up to” 72 hours. Meanwhile no access to services I’m paying for, and the only remedy they’re offering is cancellation and refund.

    I'm hoping it's the perfect balance.

    I'll ask him how long he's worked at his current job. That's an indicator of loyalty, I think.

    What other questions should I ask to get a sense?

    @Jon_Kramer @Schnuckster @Waitnwallflower Vaccination comes to mind. And maybe, on a more personal and less morally charged note, things like taste in music? I recently swiped left on women who listed Justin Bieber and EDM as favorites — I’m sure they’re decent human beings but those relationships were clearly not meant to be.

    “Just not convinced that California (human rights) is actually all that much better (than Texas human rights) day-to-day.”

    Anyone in California or Texas want to try and help this guy see how he’s wrong? https://mastodonczech.cz/@eurobubba/111757743652675237

    eurobubba,
    @eurobubba@mastodonczech.cz avatar

    @KingShawn I didn’t say human rights. Now you’re putting words in my mouth.

    eurobubba,
    @eurobubba@mastodonczech.cz avatar

    @KingShawn I was talking about whether Texas in general and Austin in particular are necessarily worse places to live than San Diego. And I passionately agree that the human rights perspective is important. But things like community, culture, and yes the cost of living are also important.

    KingShawn, to random
    @KingShawn@mastodon.social avatar

    True - for the middle aged white guys.

    Again, if you’re outside that group, your “standard” of living will be significantly lower. Employees who are women or LGBTQ+ or POC or immigrants are demonstrably and significantly worse off in Texas than they are in San Diego. https://mastodonczech.cz/@eurobubba/111757149123954156

    eurobubba,
    @eurobubba@mastodonczech.cz avatar

    @KingShawn I’m not convinced that all of those categories are actually better off in Cali, POC in particular. But as a middle-aged straight white guy myself, I spose that’s not for me to say.

    eurobubba,
    @eurobubba@mastodonczech.cz avatar

    @KingShawn Hey, some of my best friends… uh, never mind. But seriously, you won’t catch me defending TX politics! And yeah, I’m sadly aware of the real impact on people’s lives. Just not convinced that Cali is actually all that much better day-to-day.

    eurobubba,
    @eurobubba@mastodonczech.cz avatar

    @KingShawn I’m just not sure why a Canadian is trying to convince me that I (and my gf who is a POC for whatever that’s worth) are living in a hellhole. TX is a big, complicated place that can’t fairly be reduced to shitty politics and a few awful headlines.

    @davidbures@mstdn.social avatar

    Because I know Tim Apple himself follows me, I need to let him know something:

    In the Czech translation of Apple Maps, the word “Recommend” (as in “69% recommend”) is translated as a verb (“to recommend”) instead of a noun. So it says “69%to recommend”.

    Fix it right, Tim! 😅

    eurobubba,
    @eurobubba@mastodonczech.cz avatar

    @davidbures I always thought it was an affordance for the user to recommend a location — in which case iinm the infinitive would be correct in the Czech. If it’s part of a sentence (“5% of users recommend this place”), the r in recommend shouldn’t be capitalized in English.

    eurobubba,
    @eurobubba@mastodonczech.cz avatar

    @davidbures I’m not following your thinking here. If it’s a control for a “recommend” action (and not to be read as part of a sentence with the %), shouldn’t it be in title case?

    eurobubba,
    @eurobubba@mastodonczech.cz avatar

    @davidbures Are you saying “Upravit hledání” shouldn’t be capitalized either? If not, what’s the difference?
