I build backends, apps and sometimes break them, practice martial arts and enjoy video games. I believe I have seen the whole Internet once, maybe twice.

Migrated all zigbee devices from Phoscon to Home Assistant ZHA.

I had to restart HA twice for the conbee2 to actually work and edit device entries manually as they somehow have been set to disabled.

Other than that it was fine. Now to setup proper automations.

It also looks like customization options I didn’t even know about exist now :)

I really hope the gets an option to download and update games while in sleep mode if the battery is full and it’s plugged in.

It takes a bit of fun out of the “let me just play Hades 2 for 20 minutes” if the first 5 is watching it update.

While it started as a joke I am actually considering to start a gaming blog for gamers over 30 who cannot avoid life.

Review criteria will be

  • does the game remind me of the controls?
  • can I get a summary what happened and what I’m supposed to do?
  • can I pick it up for 30-60 minutes and have fun?

Weekly summary of all posts will be sent on Friday evening.

It’s far from a fully thought out concept, but I like the idea and think this is a niche not well served.

“Members of any membership class with voting rights must affirm each year…“

A drama in three acts

  • register: (captcha) I think I should have an account already?!
  • login: (captcha) obviously not, I could register the mail address
  • no idea, same page as before without login button
  • click link in email: „obviously“ not a member

I have no idea what’s going on.
I’m not sure I have the energy to care.
I might simply reassign the money to another org.

The new iPads look like a pretty good upgrade, especially the display. But we are five or six years in and Apple still refuses to fix the software side to make them actually useful but for some niche application :/

If they’d announce macOS support at WWDC you could count the minutes between the announcement and me ordering one with the new keyboard case…

I’m testing some widgets on my iPad and there are some I really like. But the iBooks one is… confused.

It’s not Wednesday, so I surely didn’t reach my goal.
I’m certain I a, reading a book…

My favorite one I have on all devices for some time is the photo widget. Random memories just make me for a better “screen unlock” experience :)

Bubble Tea for is the first TUI library I touched that doesn’t make me regret writing a TUI.

The examples, documentation and video tutorials also make it super easy to get started or stitch together the parts you need.

Overall this is just a really good library from a developer perspective.

I finally figured out why I don’t like the last Doom games. It’s not necessarily the lack of ammo but the glory kills slowing down gameplay. That took me a while to realize…

We got half a cake from my mum yesterday and @Airmed mentioned that my mum went a bit heavy on the rum flavour.

My mum is contemplating if she should be insulted.
I quote “As if I’d ever bake with rum flavour. I soaked the raisins for half a day in rum. That’s how you bake a proper cake! Your wife should know that by now!”

I started playing with codellama for a week to see if I’m missing out on anything.

  • It was convenient twice
  • It wasn’t a necessity nor a major productivity improvement
  • I wouldn’t recommend using it if you aren’t comfortable fixing errors in code and don’t know the docs for the lib / framework / language
  • it was far better than AI spam Google and worse than Kagi

I expected more from what I heard so far and I was not as disappointed as I expected to be.

It’s been a day…

Dude loading more plates on a leg press than professional athletes on PEDs just to have the ROM of a daily newspaper taps my shoulder.

“Yo bro this exercise (aka full ROM lateral raises) is really bad you know. Shoulders aren’t build for that movement”

We all did stupid stuff and ego lifted at some point, but reading half a men’s health magazine and feeling qualified to give advice… next level.

But I believe him that he puts his shirt on one leg at a time.

This is entirely on Apple and I have to say Kagis fix with the browser extension and redirect is rather creative. Kudos for that one!

I really liked Google’s “woven” case for the Pixel 3. So I thought I give Apples a shot.
I need a case for the gym, the music selection is beyond offensive for working out at this point.

The material feels good.
The camera bump is insanely annoying. Just make something flat for once FFS.
It might not age as well as Google’s.

Finally got around to add a notes section to my blog to post links with a short comment, drafts I won't finish and other random things not really worth making it to the main feed.

When “SEO consultants” spam me on LinkedIn to help me grow my business by optimizing my site I usually respond with a copy and paste response asking for a meeting on February 31st. This usually shuts them up.

One of them send me three follow ups apologizing for not getting an invite to me and explaining they send multiple requests to their IT team that their calendar seems broken as it won’t let them schedule on February 31st.

This is the entertainment I needed this week.

The number of time of me picking up my and the battery being empty because it wasn’t connected to a charger for a few days is higher than me picking it up and just playing a game. And if I happen to have it docked it obviously has to update games first.

I really want to love the Deck, but that seems reserved for v2 or v3. It’s a neat device I enjoy having around. But lots of small things accumulate.

Sometimes it is fascinating to see marketing work in the real world.

A coach in my gym switched from Samsung to an iPhone. He’s more comfortable with and not too fond of and it’s his only Apple device.

But he was advised to switch to an iPhone by colleagues because “it has the better camera”. (Questionable?)

Which will be used for selfies in a bathroom mirror. For video production and marketing shots he uses a proper DSLR cam like most folks in the fitness industry.

Trying to figure out how to best make a Django app respond to the finger protocol. I’m not sure how deep down the rabbit hole I want to go before spinning up a small, separate service.

I rebuild a small Django app I use daily in Go to see how the ecosystem for web apps changes. Good news is it didn’t. Bad news is it didn’t.

Gorm is still working well but overall “meh” and a separate library / tool for schema migrations will be a better idea for larger apps.

Templating still sucks. (Yes, I know about pongo2)

Form generation? lol.

Routers choices are either incompatible with net/http or you pick Chi.

I still like Go. I wouldn’t want to build a large-ish web app in it.
