Monsters from the Id! Fish from the Wardrobe! Or something.

(TTRPG/Coding/Linux/Politics/Snark/Woo/ASD, in no particular order.)

Boosts are almost certainly an endorsement of something. Possibly not literally the post in question, though.

AI is going to spark a new dawn of human understanding and the valuation of knowledge. It will do this by making everything you read online almost certainly complete bullshit, leading to a renaissance of people engaging verified experts on a commercial basis.

@geordie Well, I thought the coming of a global pandemic would spark a new dawn of understanding of public health. So.

I’m at Crawley STEM fest and the Thales kids quiz thing has this question in it. I am unreasonably angry.

@Floppy The least wrong answer here is D

Fell over this issue with today at work AGAIN. So annoying.

If you add program foo.rb to the default branch (say) by merging it from another branch -- then ´hg log foo.rb´ will not show the merge commit. Finding the record of when (or if!) it was merged is rather hard.

Does anyone know how I can find out the particular "infosec sins" (ie whether it reports your location, can be remotely hacked, etc) of a given car?

Edit: for complex reasons we may find ourselves with one of two new cars and I'd like to choose the one that's least sucky in that regard.

Pondering configuring a web server to set the EICAR antivirus test string as a cookie on all page loads and never bother reading it back

@mcc GDPR does not require you to ask consent to set any cookie.

(It does require you to use collected data only for the purpose you collected it. So if you're collecting data at random, gotta declare a purpose of some kind, I suppose.)

@dansup a giant webring of "here's how I solved X" technical blog posts, maybe?

One of the worst things that can happen to a new idea for reforming software development is to have DHH swoop in with a half-assed shitty implementation of it, poisoning the idea for a generation of devs

fishidwardrobe,
@fishidwardrobe@mastodon.me.uk avatar

@baldur Unpopular opinion: the software industry should stop coming up with new ways to do things for a while. At this point it's just churn. Feels like advertisments for soap powder (or, indeed, SOAP powder).
