On the topic of differences in discourse, here’s a very interesting paper on regional variation in climate change attitudes in Germany.

The authors note, that previously similar research has been done only in the US and that there are many reasons to assume that the findings there may not be widely representative. E.g. the two-party system uniquely collapses topics along the partisan divide.

I've been accepted to Northeastern University for graduate school.... again! 😅 As I continue my #PhD in Computer Science, I'll also be taking courses in pursuit of a Graduate Certificate in #Bioinformatics, concurrent to my computer science dissertation on #datavisualization tools for high-dimensional data exploration. Super excited to see where this next chapter leads!

In a lot of conversations with colleagues the use of ChatGPT has been mentioned quite a lot, especially to automate or speed up certain repetitive writing or proofing tasks. I find it a very fair use, but I personally came to the conclusion that that's also part of what I like about my job and it would feel like a stolen pleasure to not be able to just do it by myself.

I am developing some tutorials to teach students the basic of front-end + data visualization.

I am always uncertain on if/how to teach them any framework. I mostly work with Vue, and I think structuring the tutorials with it would be more useful than teaching them to set up a vanilla project. At the same time I feel like teaching datavis on top of a framework might give them a partial view of how it is done and maybe it would be more useful to start from the basics.

Any thought or suggestion?
