It's time for part 3 of our short series of posts about our plans for the future of #funkwhale. Last week, we talked a bit about our plans for a new Funkwhale app. A new app and a new API are both great, but let's not forget what sets Funkwhale apart from other media platforms: federation. It's something we really want to start expanding, so let's talk about it for a while.
It's time for part 2 of our short series of posts about our plans for the future of #funkwhale. Last week, we talked a bit about our plans for a new API. While that's fun for developers and tech enthusiasts, most users are more interested in how Funkwhale as an application is going to improve. Let's talk about that now.
We thought it was time to talk a bit about the future of Funkwhale: what we've got planned, our vision, and what we need to do to get there. To do this, we've written a short series of blog posts that we'll be releasing over the next couple of weeks. We hope you enjoy them!

Something I've been thinking about for a while. But I'm very unsure what kind of server, or service we would need for that. I looked for managed servers but the price is too high for me alone. Would be great if you could give some recommendations how and maybe where to start. I'm a programmer (PHP, C++, etc.) but not a SysAdmin.
@dlikdh@wjmaggos Funkwhale should run fine on any VPS with an x86-64 or ARM64 processor. It can run on fairly low power machines like Raspberry Pis, but for larger instances you need something a bit more powerful.
The easiest way to get a Funkwhale server up is using our quick install script. It takes care of configuring your server and installing the software.
It's the season of giving, and we've got a couple of gifts to share with you! Let's start off with a new feature release: Funkwhale 1.4.0!π
Funkwhale 1.4.0 brings some new features, enhancements and bugfixes. It also drops support for Python 3.7, so make sure to update Python before upgrading!
#funkwhale 1.4.0 is on the way! We have some translations that are nearly complete, but we need some help getting them over the finish line.
If you have the time and are a speaker of Occitan, Dutch, Chinese (Simplified), Italian, Polish, Basque, Japanese, or Portuguese (Brazil), we'd really appreciate your help getting our translation strings to 100%
@funkwhale You know, I've heard of you. I vaguely remember Grooveshark and that I got into it just before it closed down.
I had a look at your site and frowned. WHAT DO YOU DO?
Seriously, you don't state this in layman's terms anywhere upfront and obvious. You really shouldn't assume that people know, especially looking at you for the first time, and even more so when you're asking for their money.

We have a new patch release ready to go for you! Funkwhale 1.3.4 is a dependency update release that removes some unused code and just generally tidies things up.
You may have noticed that https://funkwhale.audio recently got a facelift! We've completely overhauled the site to make it lighter, more accessible, and more in-line with our design principles.
