One of the challenges of writing great technical documentation: creating precise instructions makes the work sound more daunting than it really is.

My preferred way through this is to write two versions: the short version that gives a summary of the steps, followed by a long version that gives all the details.

Screenshots and videos are also part of the solution.

How do other folks solve this?

I'm surprised it took two days. Really, once the template is in place, this could probably be a half-day job.

This site is a great overview, description, and design showing how generative AI works. It's clear, accurate, and accessible.

How much money did Facebook spend lobbying for the TikTok ban?

I'm old enough to remember when Facebook/Meta paid money to right wing political operatives to go after TikTok. It was all of two years ago.

Their joy makes all the other whinging irrelevant.

Long night so far.

A call from my sister just after midnight that she’d taken mum to the hospital.

Been holding bedside vigil while sister goes home and gets some sleep. Doctors running tests and whatnot. Morphine for the pain. Machines that go “bing”.

It’s about 4:30am and mum’s snoring with a plethora of tubes and wires.

Eyes are heavy. Chair is uncomfortable. The nurses showed me where I could make a cup of coffee for myself.

Taking screenshots on the Raspberry Pi 5 - this took me an oddly long time to get sorted out, so I put it here so I wouldn't forget it, and hopefully it saves someone else some time as well.

Wordpress giving a case study that open source doesn't mean you are automatically (or really, Automattically) the good folks.

Wordpress and Tumblr are preparing to sell out their users by sharing their content with OpenAI and Midjourney.

Wordpress will add insult to injury by using "opt-out" - ie, they force users to say they don't want this to happen, as opposed to giving people the choice to actively choose to share.

Glad @404mediaco is on this.

The emails sent out from actual legit companies that provide outsourced HR services are indistinguishable from phishing or scam emails.

This is (one of many reasons) why we can't have nice things.

When employers requires people to trust emails that look EXACTLY like the emails that they tell employees not to trust? Good luck with that.

@NatureMC I am assuming that you shared this in good faith, but/and it's not needed or helpful.

I am aware of how to find Mozilla online, in multiple ways. I have attended and presented at MozFests. I am a fan of what Mozilla was, and despite their recent actions I see potential in the org.

But/and: I'm not giving free labor in the form of any kind of conversation to an org that laid off 60 people yesterday, and is doubling down on "trustworthy AI".
