multiboxing hurts legitimate players. This needs to stop.

I ran Dragon's End today. Kicked these people when they joined, before we got a map to play on. They were not able to join our instance via squad.

Within about two minutes, a map queue formed. These people running 5-6 accounts EACH maxed out the map's player limit of 60, and made it so legitimate players could not join and have fun. They waited in queue for an HOUR.

Seven people could not join our fresh map and have fun.

A screenshot of Guild Wars 2. Five players are stacked together, doing nothing.
A screenshot of Guild Wars 2. A lot of jade mechs without visible players are stacked in the same location.

@bass So slide under the rules... Only way to get rid of them is peer pressure.

@alien Feel your pain somewhat. I get summer-onset SAD, so really feel the effects of it August/end of July, before the days start getting shorter.

Ritual threw me a bone and let me 6-link my chest in SSF! Hoping I get enough eldritch currency to slam some nice implicits on it soon.

Death Jack Elegant Ringmail: a 6-linked chest with a massive fractured life roll, two elemental resists, and extra armor+energy shield. It even has a free suffix!

garpu,
@garpu@mastodon.online avatar

@bass Oh wow. I swear I always get really shitty luck with 6-links.

There is a positive ideal that says 'bad things happen so greater good may result'.

Well, after Red Hat killed CentOS, that directly resulted in open sourcing Ansible for DevOps, which has to date led to at least 37,444 more people having the opportunity to learn Ansible than would've before.

That's $347,065 of value created in response to a single bad decision ;)

garpu,
@garpu@mastodon.online avatar

@geerlingguy I need to learn Ansible one of these days. Would like to work towards certs, too. Problem is, test is expensive, and I'd worry I'd blow it.

@alien OBS 30 is a beta release. 29.whatever is sufficient for me at the moment, and God only knows what 30 will break.

@alien So did you do any baking for Christmas? I just made my great-great aunt's fruitcake. :) (And pizza....still need to clean the oven from that.)

@alien You run into the framebuffer/nvidia bug with the 6.1 kernel? Getting really tired of it not being fixed for older cards. IMO, it's sweetening the deal to replace it (eventually) with AMD.

Liu Cixin’s sci-fi book “The Three-Body Problem” has been made into series called “3 Body Problem.” It will be on Netflix this spring and they just dropped a trailer.

@alien @markwyner I've heard good about the Chinese version. That series of books is on my to-read list.

@alien The necro'ed post about SET on your blog looks like it would be a fun game for blizzards. I should get a cribbage board, too. My dad made one when my parents were first married, and I wish I had that. My mom probably threw it out long ago, though.

@alien Speaking of CHinese-inspired sci-fi/fantasy, "Babel" by R. F. Kuang is great. (more alternate history.)

@alien are you on the lilypond mailing list? Sounds like Frescobaldi is abandoned. No word from the developer, and the people who were bugfixing don't have the time. (Plus qtwebengine needs to be updated badly, and nobody's able to do so.)

Group sues Boston-area landlords, brokers it says refuse to rent to people with government housing vouchers

garpu,
@garpu@mastodon.online avatar

@universalhub Yeah, so many landlords aren't taking vouchers, or charging "broker's fees" that price people out.

Question for the Massachusetts people (Hi @universalhub!) Why doesn't BJ's have onion rings? They've got waffle fries, crinkle cut fries, tater tots, straight-cut fries, and sweet potato fries. No onion rings.

@alien grrrf. "join our discord for support." I like discord for social things, but am cranky about everyone having a discord and locking help/support/bugs behind it.
