What are some numbers in your field that anyone else in the field would identify without even thinking about it, but folk outside may have no idea. Just the numbers, no explanations. Yet.

Today in WITAF news, Nissan's call centre to handle data breach has its own data breach.

the duct/vent in my wife's study suddenly decided to blow weak (but still hot) air out of it, but the one further down in my study is strong as it always has been - wtf

georgeharito,
@georgeharito@mastodon.au avatar

@decryption You might have a hole in a duct or a pipe is half-off. That’s happened to me before.

georgeharito,
@georgeharito@mastodon.au avatar

@decryption I went into my roof space once and had to go under a main duct that fed heat to like 3 rooms, and I accidentally pushed a pipe off its connector with my back when I was underneath it. Was a real bitch getting that huge pipe back on the connector. I don’t think they had a lot of tape on there in the first place.

After I got it back on, I added some more straps as well to keep the pipe suspended better between the rafters, they only had a couple at each end of the pipe, causing the middle to sag heaps.

@decryption called it, I guess?

Morlvision is on right now on the Twitch channel of Sean Morley (link below)

It's an online song contest with 29 entries. I'm one of them!

I'd love for you to check it out!

@Tijn I have your entry stuck in my head today (well, the tune at least, as I don’t know Dutch). I say this as a compliment!

All you folk out there eyeballing the new Microsoft ARM PC's - remember that you can always donate your old stuff to http://www.computersforacause.charity 😀

@mvyrmnd I have an old Dell Studio 1555 like this one: https://au.pcmag.com/gallery/35034/dell-studio-1555-s1555-4285mbu it’s pretty old (Windows 7 era) and the sides are getting that rubber gummy texture that’s icky to touch. Is this too old for you guys to accept?

blog post where I compare a bunch of cameras under $1000 to find the best one for someone looking to get back into the hobby

@decryption boo Sony. But in all seriousness, you can get an adapter for Sony E mount to use Nikon F lenses.

georgeharito,
@georgeharito@mastodon.au avatar

@decryption You have. It sounds like you have decision paralysis. Almost any camera made in the last 5 years is going to be amazing.

georgeharito,
@georgeharito@mastodon.au avatar

@duncan_bayne @decryption Point and shoots have been lacking in the R&D department for many years. If you want great low light performance you’ll have to pay big bucks for newer mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras. Or you could try the Fujifilm X100V or X100VI. But they’re very expensive.

Okay, so my wife's business site stopped building on Cloudflare Pages because one of the Nuxt generated files - a JSON file - exceeded 25MB.

Just what was this file and why was it so big?

Was it even needed?

The full exhilarating story and investigation at https://damieng.com/blog/2024/05/14/nuxt-content-db-and-size/

Having a charge-the-collection day. Every time I do this iPod I forget it's a HD based machine until partway through it fires up the drive with a noise that sounds like the ones that early morning huntsman spiders make when they click to each other on the walls.

@NanoRaptor “early morning huntsman spiders make when they click to each other” I am all too familiar with that sound.
