Day 1 (Delayed):
When did you start watching dramas?

Around 2015ish?

Okay, so! I literally ran out of vampire anime on Netflix, and wasn't trying to start The Vampire Diaries at the time.

I wanted something shorter, without a million seasons, and I saw The Scholar Who Walks the Night and decided to check it out.

Then another vampire drama. And in the process, found a new media category to start watching.

Day 2 (Delayed):
Favourite actress discovered in 2023

I've mentioned her before, but Aya Orapan Phongmaykin. She's a face genius. By that I mean, she's just really good at animating her face. It allows her to breathe life to Yiwa, a character that both feels real, and strategically deploys larger than life mannerisms.

I love her portrayal of Yiwa. She's one of my favorite parts of the show.

Favourite actor discovered in 2023

Oooh, lemme get back to you on this.

Okay! I am back. I’ve found so many cool actors this year. From the LITA crew to Joylada gang, and more.

So, tie between:

Diloknawarit - very silly and sweet, and one half of . Goes all in.

Guntachai - I like him as an actor but more importantly: he said he wanted to play a vampire in a drama, and he made it happen. Honestly, an inspiration.

Day 13: A drama you found boring

When it comes to vampire media, there's a lot of tedium and mediocrity I'm willing to overlook.

However, two dramas that I found too boring to bear: Love at First Taste, and Vampire Flower.

I was kinder to Vampire Flower, giving it a 3.5 out of 10 on MDL.

Love at First Taste, I gave a 1. I don't even know why it was titled that, bc iirc, no biting even happened?

Day 4:
Favorite original song from a 2023 drama

Okay so, Redo by took a bit to grow on me, but it's fun, and Krist hits some high notes that are notable (ha).

The lyrics are something of a literal exploration of the plot, and in a way Kawi's misconceptions and lessons.

But they're also a pretty heartfelt exploration of regret and a desire to be better.

On the right day, the bridge gives me goosebumps.

Day 5: A visually beautiful 2023 drama

I think the usual suspects for beautiful dramas -- for good reason -- are period dramas with sweeping views, and elegant costuming.

Which is why it might, on the surface, be surprising for me to pick , given the modern setting, and the often enclosed, sometimes claustrophobic sets.

I think the beginning and end of the first episode should clear up why I chose it. It's gorgeous, in a horror way. And I love that.

Day 16: Best actress of 2023

Honestly, I was having so much trouble with this one initially— then having 2 to 3 candidates, and having trouble choosing. But I think I’ve got this sorted now.

First off Tangkabodee for her role as Fa in . Fa as a character has a lot of range to me. From adventurous, to terrified, to smugly ahead of the game, the role really gave Prim the opportunity to shine, and she did.

Atm, most of my stuff comes from @massivelyop, a function of a long time in which my primary gaming was MMOs. I was a fan since they were part of another site -- that I can't remember the name of now, so... :blobcatfingerguns: Not hard to say which part was the part I actually liked.

They became their own thing a while back, and have kept growing and getting better.

Also I just like their reporting overall.

But also I suspect you already know about them?

I've decided to go with for organization and notes for the game I'm planning. I went with it over because Notion is less hassle to sync and work with between my tablet and my laptop. I'm still using Obsidian for things where it's fine for it to live only on my laptop.

@emmaaum While on the one hand I know this probably won’t help with the lonely feelings: you having a different take is valued.

And I realize that just saying that by itself will sound like a very pie in the sky platitude. So instead of leaving it at that, here’s selfish reasons that’s true:

• You encourage me to give shows a chance that I might not have otherwise.
• The algorithms that surround us will point us at different things, so you know about shows I never heard of.

@emmaaum That’s fair, and there is stuff for us to do that with. (Like Enigma, but I’ll get back to that in a bit.)

Off the top of my head: Moonlight Chicken and Fish in the Sky. The former is on my to watch list, and the latter I’ve “gremlin watched,” but am likely to come back to.

But overall there’s a number of subtle influences and points of connection in my head, including just, me looking at stuff and thinking of you and wondering if you’d like it.

It’s not the same, but still.

@emmaaum re: Enigma: I am a very scattered person. I cannot emphasize this enough.

Me watching half of a show and taking forever to finish it is very on brand. Especially when I don’t want to have to “leave” the show, so to speak. It took well over a year to finish The Untamed, after I was already over 40 episodes in.

It’s not that I haven’t managed to watch more. It’s that I got interrupted and I want to be able to dedicate proper time and focus. To make it an event for me.

@emmaaum ah, that’s fair. I get a little bit jumpy at the possibility of being interpreted as disinterested bc of being scattered, but it sounds like that’s not what you meant.

In either case, the point is Enigma is really good, and the length of time i take to view it doesn’t reflect poorly on it.

And Ajin is legit one of my favorite (if not just my favorite) magic users on a TV show, ever. :blobcatdance:

@emmaaum @sheepchase some new ones are coming out. I haven’t watched them yet but a bunch look promising. In particular some studios that have experience and money from successful BLs are branching out, in some cases casting familiar faces.

Which may be handy for drawing in eyes to gain inertia for later projects. (And also IMO points to an awareness of their queer audiences, in particular the part that makes up the overlapping market for BLs/GLs. — Ohai, that’s me.)
