Later on today (once I’ve gotten some sleep) I’m going to convert bofh.social over to Calckey. I’m probably going to fuck this up but in an effort to minimize the fall out I’m going to go in and manually unsubscribe the accounts I’m following and manually remove the followers I’ve got and re-follow everybody back once I’ve moved everything over. I’m hoping that by doing that that won’t break federation with the accounts. Of course whether or not you wish to still follow me would be entirely up to you. ;-)

You can spot the fedi admins around here with low emotional or social intelligence.

They’re the one’s blocking other instances simply because they don’t like another instance’s admin.

All to the detriment of their users.

I refuse to believe that the Log Cabin Republicans are a real group.

How mentally unhinged must you be to be gay and also be a Republican?

Next you’re going to tell me that there are atheists that pray and go to church and get Holy Communion.

This is precisely why we have a Department of Justice though. Time for the US Marshals to arrest this Sheriff and have him brought up on charges for his terroristic threats!

Google search is drunk. I cannot search for what I want rn (something beginning with an "A") because its predictive text or AI whatever keeps filling in the name of the actor Alan Arkin, who just died (RIP, great actor).

gme,

@briankrebs Use DuckDuckGo and then prepend your Google search with “!g” which will cause your results to come from google.

In the middle of the 20th century Americans hid behind their religion as an excuse to not serve black people.

In the middle of the 19th century Americans hid behind their religion as an excuse to enslave black people.

In the middle of the 18th century Americans hid behind their religion as an excuse to murder and kill the indigenous population as well as to enslave black people.

In the early 21st century Americans are hiding behind their religion as an excuse to persecute people that don’t look or love like them.

Can someone explain to me why every news article today always has this phrase:

CNN has reached out to representatives for _______ for additional comment.

It usually always appears when something bad has happened to somebdoy.

Very rarely does it appear when something positive or good has happened.

Like what the fuck do you expect people to say in this type of situation?

This appears to be a relatively new phenomenon in journalism.

In the 1990s and even early 2000s very rarely would you have seen something like this reported.

Just curious how and why it started. It seems lazy at best.

Like journos were so quick to run with a story they didn’t even bother to finish doing their job before they clicked “published”.

ChatGPT has done more in the past 30 minutes to teach me PowerShell than I learned doing all those training labs at udemy or pluralsight at my last job.

gme, (edited ) to random

I have completed my 3rd book with the help of ChatGPT. It’s completely revolutionized my creative process.

But anyone that just takes the ChatGPT output at face value is a damn fool.

I have to edit what ChatGPT produces extensively, and then use ProWritingAid, and then edit some more.

Still.

It’s probably reduced by 50% - 75% the amount of time it takes me to write.

The drafts I write in Google Docs with the GPT for Sheets & Docs extension.

Then I take the Google Docs output and bring it into Scrivener.

Using Google Docs and the GPT for Sheets and Docs extension means I can pretty much keep ChatGPT from hallucinating and have it remember key facts about the setting, characters, and the plot.

It also let’s me experiment with different directions and plot developments. I just need to make a new copy of the document I’m working on and can experiment. And if I like the direction where things are going I can keep it or discard it.

@nutjob4life You should totally check out Welcome to Wrexham on Netflix.

gme,

@nutjob4life sorry yeah hulu. it’s a documentary. about ryan reynolds and rob mcelhenny buying the Wrexham FC in Wrexham, Wales and in the process of turning the team around ends up turning around the town as well. It’s not a reality show. It’s a documentary.

I don’t have the attention span to read anything longer than a paragraph and I fully recognize that this is incredibly hypocritical for a person who regularly posts long, awkward stories on what is supposed to be a short-form social media platform, but my admin allows over 11,000 characters per post and I will not let that go to waste.

gme,

@wagesj45 @Alice Bard does a decent job too of summarizing. And since it’s Google, it usually has access to pay-walled articles too.

Curious about Lemmy and boy, we're not making this easy are we?

  1. Lemmy or kbin?
What is the difference? Do they still aggregate the same things? Just getting my head wrapped around the difference is confusing.

  2. Lemmy requires me to join a server?
Not this again... I DON'T care what the server's 'topic' is. I just want something that is reliable so I can see MANY topics.

Note: I really REALLY don't want you to help me (I know the answers)
I'm pointing out a problem

gme,

@kainoa @scottjenson @Evoterra Is there a list of servers that have pledged to abide by that covenant?

Double-checked my Reddit history has been nuked. ✅
Posted a sticky post to the single sub I moderate pointing to Lemmy & Kbin versions I've created as a migration point. ✅

It's such a sad day for Apollo users like me and the fact that Reddit has become awful in only 2-months is astounding. I will miss it, but I'm ready to jump to the threadiverse and eager to use @hariette's Artemis app once I get into the beta.

gme,

@Aaron @hariette There’s been reports of Reddit admins going in and restoring all the posts users have deleted so you may want to set a reminder to check back in a few days. Reddit doesn’t want users deleting any posts en mass.

gme,

@Aaron @hariette Unfortunately no. Reports are reddit admins are reverting the post edits after they’re restored. Reddit’s stance is any content we post there belongs to them so they can monetize it.
