We can agree to disagree but the moment you start attacking my person and not my ideas is the moment you forfeit the debate.

this is one side of the lab.. trying to figure out better storage for software .. but this is getting there

gme,

@arcadeshopper Oh my god that’s a Radio Shack! Look at those Model 1s, Model 2s, Model 3s, Color Computers…. You probably have some Model 100s and 101s too. My entire childhood is represented in your garage.

gme,

@arcadeshopper I am incredibly jealous. Envious. But quite sanguined that those gorgeous machines are still wanted, used, and appreciated. The first computer I ever touched was a Model 1 in 1978. It was running “Elijah” and I managed to break out of its program and when I asked it a question it’s SYNTAX ERROR response got me hooked. I was 6.

gme,

@arcadeshopper Oh I noticed the Tandy’s. ;-) I could never afford the Tandy PCs, but by that time I was building my own PCs anyway.

Also useful for smashing windows or knocking your bastard of a boss out, too.

This morning I kicked things off with “Plus Fort” by Julien Granel.

To close out this amazing and awesome Monday, let’s close things out with and performing “” live for a studio audience on . Hands down one of my favorite songs of all time!

Now, if only I had the patience to learn Scots Gaelic!

Comparison of various

Rich Posts? Pretty much every other Fedi server software supports Rich Posts with the exception of Pixelfed. Mastodon provides quite a sub-par experience in this area compared to Calckey and Akkoma for example.

Search? There’s been a lot of debate about searching on the . All of your toots have been searchable in Pleroma, Akkoma, Calckey, Misskey, and Foundkey have had search pretty much since Day 1. The sky hasn’t fallen.

Quote Posts? Akkoma, Foundkey, and Calckey have Quoted Posts. They’re awesome by the way.

Emoji Reactions… Because sometimes a ⭐ isn’t good enough. Only Mastodon, Pixelfed, and GoToSocial don’t have emoji reactions.

The Fediverse is more than Mastodon.

Assume Positive Intent

Assume positive intent means to choose to believe the best of people and trust that they have good intentions. It means starting with the belief that a person meant well or was doing their best, regardless of what they said or did. It requires that we make a guess about what was in their mind and give them the benefit of the doubt.

Assuming positive intent can be practiced by following these steps:

  • Pause before reacting. When someone says or does something that triggers a negative emotion in you, don’t respond immediately. Take a moment to calm yourself and think about why they might have acted that way.
  • Ask questions. Instead of making assumptions or accusations, try to understand the other person’s perspective and motives. Ask open-ended questions that invite them to explain their reasoning and feelings. Listen actively and empathetically to their answers.
  • Reframe the situation. Try to see the situation from a different angle, one that is more positive and constructive. Consider how the other person’s actions might have been motivated by a positive intention, such as helping, learning, or improving. Think about how you can work together to achieve a common goal or resolve a conflict.
  • Give feedback. If you still feel hurt or offended by the other person’s actions, communicate your feelings and expectations respectfully and constructively. Use “I” statements to express your emotions and needs, rather than blaming or criticizing the other person. Focus on the behavior, not the person. Offer suggestions for improvement or solutions for the problem.
  • Forgive and move on. Once you have understood the other person’s positive intent and given them feedback, let go of any resentment or grudge you might have. Forgive them for any mistake or misunderstanding they might have made, and appreciate their efforts and good intentions. Move on with a positive attitude and a renewed trust.

Assuming positive intent can help you build better relationships, reduce stress, improve teamwork, and foster a more positive and productive environment.

It’s not a difficult concept, and the would be a much kinder space for all if everyone agreed to adopt that pledge rather than whether or not an instance should defederate or not.

It's not going to take much for Italian Immigration authorities to search the passenger manifests or Passport records of all travelers named "Ivan" and "Haley". Or have Passport Control check the Passports of everyone leaving the Country named "Ivan" and "Haley".

That being said, how self-centered and narcissistic must you be to vandalize and carve your name into a 2000 year old heritage site.

gme,

@feld Stupid is as stupid does. Also, driving a crane sounds cool. That time of my life I was working for Magic Kingdom and Universal Studios operating the rides or performing in the Main Street Electrical Parade.

gme,

@r000t @feld Safety was baked in to everything I did at my last job (Electric Utility). And I worked in IT. We started off every meeting (even with an IT vendor) with a safety briefing. A lot of those lessons and best practices I still carry with me into my personal life. It’s a way of thinking. A way of life.

gme,

@feld Looks like the guy died by suicide.

So maybe the safety briefings worked too well.

Oh well. If somebody is hell-bent on killing themselves there’s not much anyone can do to stop them.
