Into the first aid module of the training, and the acronym, COWS.

C - Can you hear me?
O - Open your eyes
W - What's your name?
S - Seems like someone had an oopsie!

(I can't remember S, so my brain helpfully filled that in instead)

You know the fun* part about doing safety training?

Learning about all the dangerous things you've done in your life, and somehow dodged a bullet.

(Also, the asbestos part has put a knife of fear into my chest, but that's a whole other horror story)

For anyone who’s been following along with our housing tribulations over the past few years, here’s today’s new twist.

Now you see it, now you don’t.

Space where the sign was until an hour ago, with the owner having failed to sell the houses, and choosing to continue with them as investment properties. Yes, the house is still sinking.

First time I’ve ever considered a GoFundMe, but I feel like I probably should try and sell a bunch of stuff first to try and fund fixing my teeth.

Phone was fixed, with a three and a half hour layover at Chadstone, where - instead of dysphoria, which I expected - I had several euphoria-inducing interactions with shop staff who treated me like a woman.

Plus an utterly hilarious interaction with one of the staff at Mecca, who asked what make-up another staff member had used on my face to make it look so good.

"I'm not actually wearing make-up."

"OHMYGOODNESSYOURSKINISAMAZING"

blush

which was great, but later in the afternoon, at a completely different shopping centre, while I was getting my eyebrows done, the beautician told me "You have the most incredible skin", so... maybe it's all the water I've been drinking?

So, it's the first of January again, and it's time to lay out my plans for my

It's going to come in two parts this year, because it's touching on a sensitive topic, so some of the posts will have a CW, and some hashtags to filter them.

Top level is . Someone asked if they could join in on a daily project, and I said sure, that I'd use a top-level hashtag for anyone who wants to join in at a "daily project" level, but doesn't want to join in the actual project. Feel free to use this one in your daily project posts. I could even make a list, if you want!

Project level is . It's just a daily check-in for accountability on getting healthier, and for the folks who want the accountability thing on this in particular, and asked if they could join in.

I'll be using two separate hashtags to separate the personal posts. The second ones will also get a CW.

The first will be my daily check-in , with two goals:

  • Drink 2L of water per day, in addition to other liquids. I don't drink enough water. I have a notated drink bottle which will at least let me know how far I got each day.

  • A minimum of Five minutes of exercise six days a week, with Sunday as a "rest" day, increasing by five minutes per day each month, with a goal of doing a minimum of 60 minutes of exercise per day by December.

I'm really trying hard not to overcomplicate this, because I don't want to give myself an extra burden by committing to lengthy exercise reviews, but I might make some comments.

The second will come with a CW and be hashtagged with . Will be at least monthly, and it will be about weight loss. The hashtag & CW are for the folks for whom this is a triggering subject, so they can mute it. I'll explain more in a separate post.

Gonna unpin my old project post, and pin this one, and off we go again.

What kind of fool opens their work email at 1am on New Year’s Day, while on holidays from work, finds a work email that immediately triggers their anxiety, and is now hugely stressed out about something they can’t do anything about?

It me. I’m the fool.

My favourite* thing about anxiety is how it’s a gravity well that starts sucking in everything else that I can get anxious about. Yay.

Holy crap. I'm waiting to verify the details, but it looks like the parking app used in Brisbane and elsewhere in Australia (as far as I can tell, "CelloPark") had an enormous billing clusterfuck, and anyone who's used the app since December 18th has been billed to at least one particular credit card.

My oldest friend (~40 years!) got a call from his today bank asking why they'd maxed out their $15k credit card on parking.

Perhaps something of interest @stilgherrian and @daedalus (and all you other nerds).

Zero to rage in 60 seconds.

$offspring (adult!) had worked for $franchise happily for two years, and then left a particular store after a new manager there started causing them grief, and they were coming home miserable after every shift for months.

After taking a break, they applied for job in same franchise, different franchisee several suburbs away. Got job. Were feted for their speed and accuracy, and the noted improvement in internal statistics and KPIs during their shifts. Were consistently praised for taking initiative in doing tasks that other employees had to be prompted for.

Franchisee was opening new franchise store nearby. Offered $offspring management role, to start in December, started them in the internal management training program.

Everything going great, $offspring excited.

A few weeks ago, $offspring suddenly getting no shifts. Zero to one occasional shift. No longer going to new store.

$Offspring upset, won't explain, apart from odd comment about hating themself.

This morning, $offspring explains, while I'm making breakfast.

$Offspring had mentioned in passing at work, that they're .

A couple of days later, $manager meets with $offspring, says they want to delay moving them to new store, concerned that the pressure might be too much.

Not based on any performance at current store, just "concerns". Then current store stops rostering $offspring on shifts.

(Same $franchise used identical mechanism with eldest, neurotypical child when they reached 19. Just stopped rostering child on.)

$Offspring cannot prove anything. Nothing in writing. Just no more shifts.

$Offpsring knows, though.

I'm furious right now. assholes.

One of the most frustrating things about being late-diagnosed is how much of my behaviour has been shaped by not understanding I'm autistic and trying to work around those things.

In some ways it feels like those photos of trees that have grown around bikes and fences, and I hate how deformed I feel, but I don't know how to undo those things now.

Cf. gender.

Starting to think about next year, and all my still-unplayed games, and the discipline of writing the reviews and actually thinking through what I liked and disliked about the games.

There have also been some downsides about posting on Mastodon directly.

Discoverability has been the biggest pain; knowing I've reviewed a particular game, but finding it easier to jump on Google and search "grissallia [game name]" when I want to refer back to something I've written.

Several folks have expressed appreciation for the reviews, which kind-of took me by surprise, because I just assumed everyone would mute the thread.

Beyond that, though, I still want to be able to refer back to games that I've reviewed to remember what I didn't like about them, but also to link back to particular reviews.

Also, I regret some of the self-imposed limitations. The "Nope-Meh-OK-Good-Excellent" rating worked OK initially, but there are some games that were borderline, where I wished I'd had a "half-star" rating.

There were days where the cost of forcing myself to write the review was too much, either in terms of time (I used up all my gaming time last night trying to write a review for a fifteen year old game!), or other nights I where I ended up stealing spoons from the next day, which has a snowball effect when the "next day" is a work day.

What I think I'm going to do, because apparently I like to create extra work for myself, is try and find a "review" theme and throw it onto https://reviews.grissallia.com/, and migrate the reviews there.

I can keep writing reviews as I play the games, but I don't know whether there's enough interest in me still posting them here, and putting the effort into making the site pretty, or just using it as a personal reference.
