Well update on the government side of the job hunt… did a horrid 3-hr exam on Monday in which the person who wrote the job description did not talk to the person who wrote the exam. So that was a fucking amazing stressful waste of time (probably).

Next Monday I get another 2-day exam at 8;30AM and… a 2-hr exam at 9 AM from a difference department the same day. So will get the 2-hr exam out of the way and do the 2-day exam after 😩

@human3500 Mondays was hard but I’m excited for the two next Monday! Will see you

@Auxonic 🙏 waiting for a reference check for a whole other started last year and excited for the two next week but the stress is high at the moment

@MichaelPorter I mean I haven’t done many but Mondays didn’t line up with what I applied for so unsure if my skills shone at all but I think next weeks will be better aligned (hopefully)

@johnefrancis a few of them in the fire right now and will keep plugging away at. Lots of applications everywhere but the private sector ghosting is a tad bullshit

The Yuba’s version of an oil change. Degreasing, soap, wash, scraping, more soap, wiping etc etc. gunna take it in for a one-year check up, make sure the brakes still have life and such. I’m slowly getting better at working on and taking off more parts, but don’t want to go too far #ottawa #ottbike #biketooter

The absolute fuckery of carbon capture both in what is basically wealth transfer from 🇨🇦s to an oil and gas company and… 9 million tonnes of CO2 supposedly sequestered since 2015? Over 100 million tonnes of carbon produced by 🇨🇦 oil and gas in 2022 alone? Get the fuck out of here with this tech and “subsidy” bullshit https://www.cbc.ca/news/climate/shell-greenpeace-quest-1.7196792

Well if you want a detached single family home then you should have to bear ALL the costs associated with. Booo fucking hooooo, build more dense forms of housing #ottawa #onpoli https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/ottawa-developer-charge-change-raise-1.7195464

grivettcarnac,
@grivettcarnac@mstdn.social avatar

@WhippoorwillSong cities are going to have to take leadership here tho. People may want single family homes and at the same time want low taxes, all the services and low cost for said houses. But this isn’t possible, tenable, realistic etc. Municipalities are going to have to start long term changing expectations and tell the truth about costs. Don’t see any other way to shift demand and encourage more dense housing options

Just utter coddling by the justice system for white man tears. Must reduce the emotional impact for the cop who experienced emotional distress because of his own actions… what the fuck https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilton/michael-lacombe-sex-assault-1.7195412

This is very very funny. I'm curious if this photo radar program will ever result in a ground swell of suport for alternatives. Transit? Redesigning of streets? Because this is a tax. Don't get me wrong, lets get photo radar everywhere but this is insane

One of the things that has fallen to the way side with the past few years is the idea of brand loyalty. Yes for certain items I have a preference (I’ve had some clothing etc for 5-10+ yrs) in terms of durability and quality but beside that? Fuck no. Price. Patagonia? Nope. Canadian brands? Not really. If it’s not on sale then won’t even bother. I have mostly had the same clothes for the past five years, repairing them, maintaining, which I’ve always done but now with earnest

grivettcarnac,
@grivettcarnac@mstdn.social avatar

I well aware the privilege of being able to own quality items that last. But the past few years have just cemented habits I’ve had for a while. The only challenge has been that I’m someone whose weight has fluctuated and so I have clothing that fits and doesn’t fit and then may fit again. But when even Value Village isn’t a deal I just keep to the same sets of clothes until I can’t wear them anymore

grivettcarnac,
@grivettcarnac@mstdn.social avatar

@Dianora I thankfully dont have to patch too often but the issue I find with stretchy pants is the thread and stitching isn’t very good so I’ve had a few repairs done for that but they keep on working fine otherwise!

@stephanie @ShaunOttawa hahaha oh my goe of course

grivettcarnac,
@grivettcarnac@mstdn.social avatar

@robattrell @stephanie @ShaunOttawa ya I hear you. I’ve managed to stay consistent the past 3-4 yrs but at a weight I’d like to get down a bit but thankfully my small wardrobe is hanging on without too much need right now

    I'd hazard it's a dereliction of duty on the part of the city. A city that has declared a climate emergency, a city that claims to give a fuck about affordability... to not make every single choice to get as many cars off the road as possible. To make communities healthier, safer, more affordable, more friendly, less polluted...

    But no, this city is actively makingh life worse, less healthy, less affordable, less accessible

    I have a big job interview on Teams this afternoon and can’t for the life of me figure out how to do a “presenter view” for a presentation through screen share. It just shares the screen with my notes as it seems Google slides doesn’t have an option for this… anyone have any tips? otherwise I’ll have to open two presentations and click through both which just fucks my timing cuz of course it’s timed

    @Auxonic @casseagull I have a big 2nd monitor for editing images that I’m using and trying to now get the right camera angle so that they aren’t staring up my nose as I look at the big monitor above my laptop 🙃😂 This is for Ontario Parks marketing team and a steep learning curve to not having done interviews in yearsss but a good intro to my other interview next week with infrastructure Canada. Slow as fuck process for months then everything happens in a week 🥵

    @johnefrancis took 2 hrs and think 🤷‍♂️ it went well. Ontario Public Service has a mandatory 3-days in office unless there’s no parks office in commuting distance. I told them we don’t own a car and have no idea if there are offices here in Ottawa so who knows (they said nothing about offices here) 🙃
