They have a handy map of where I’m going tomorrow 🙂

grlodi,
@grlodi@mastodon.social avatar

@jon Interesting that it says “Boarding pass”.

I see it as rail failing to describe themselves as good on their own. They need the plane comparison. 🤔

grlodi,
@grlodi@mastodon.social avatar

@jon To be fair I wouldn’t want to bike in Tallinn in winter, the road maintenance is kind of garbage. And then if I have to buy a car for half the year… I’d get used to it and use it to make it “worth it”.

grlodi,
@grlodi@mastodon.social avatar

@jon Yeah absolutely doable to fix it! I bike in Stockholm year-round.

But what was the conclusion of the person saying that average car trip is 3km?

@jon Clearly controversial but I’m not a big fan of the X2000 in terms of comfort. Somehow I feel like there’s too much space and I never get comfortable to use my laptop so I put my laptop on my lap which is not so great.

Quite a weird complaint to be fair.

grlodi,
@grlodi@mastodon.social avatar

@jon Would be very curious to see you add the CO2 emissions for each trip, although it could require quite some effort to get right in countries where this kind of data is not so easy to find.

Everything cleaned and checked for 5 weeks of adventures ahead!

@jon Didn’t know this brand, but seeing this bike support you throughout your adventures makes me want to have one 😃
I’ve been looking for a folding bike anyway.

@everydoor is so far the best OSM editor I’ve found for POIs, even on desktop where I prefer it a lot than than JOSM or iD.

I now find myself couch-mapping with ED even if I have my laptop available which kind of asks the question: would it be possible to load a list of POIs in ED to go through them? I could have a list of deeplinks to everydoor://edit/<nodeid>.

Ofc that’s kind of against ED’s premise (that you map on the ground), but still I could see that as a useful feature.

Ah

We’ve got another example of that legendary cooperation between state railways today in Köln

Where the Eurostar* stops at the platform is NOT shown on the screens (while for RE and ICE trains it is shown)

So Eurostar employs a person on the platform to tell passengers where to stand 🤦‍♂️

    • Eurostar is 55% SNCF, 18% SNCB
grlodi,
@grlodi@mastodon.social avatar

@partim @jon Ah, yes that happened to me with an SJ train, at 22:05 it disappeared from the screen and boom that was it.

I learned afterwards that it had left… 5 hours before the announced time… and DB didn’t even know about it 🤯

Always a fun experience to take those night trains.

Ha

If only my knowledge of EU law had the desired impact this fast every time 🙂

My father wanted to pay a EDF French electricity bill from a Belgian bank account, and was told that this was not possible because the bank was outside France

I formulated a stern email to EDF for him, in French, stipulating this was not allowed as a reason within the Single European Payment Area (SEPA), and within a few hours they relented in a grovelling email!

grlodi,
@grlodi@mastodon.social avatar

@jon I wonder why they don’t change this process after a while. What’s preventing them from accepting EU IBANs? Why is the default answer no?

grlodi,
@grlodi@mastodon.social avatar

@jon Yeah, I really wonder why they didn’t change the default, like is there any economics aspect I’m missing? Or maybe they just don’t care at all

C'est ce que le ministre des transports devrait annoncer.

Pour des vacances sinon je suis 100% d’accord. Surtout que la plupart des gares ont des énormes parking…

Anyone knows what’s up with Vy’s night train to Narvik in June? Looks like the “fastest” trip is now 25 hours (12 to 13 next day), or to have a connection in Boden.

I see the normal timetables in May though (only Friday/Saturday as written on their traffic info).

Humans are bizarre

I’m still 😷 if air is bad in a train, it’s busy, or if people are coughing

There are 2 seats free here in this train to Paris - either next to me wearing a mask, or next to a guy opposite spluttering incessantly (who’s the reason I masked straight away)

Where does the passenger boarding at Joigny sit? Next to the spluttering guy, after having given me a weird look 🤷‍♂️

Sweden is having a very typical Swedish argument about their railways - how European do they want to be?

Should the carriages they want to order for trains to northern Sweden and Norway be built to the larger Swedish, or the smaller European loading gauge? https://jarnvagar.nu/politiker-vill-ha-bredare-sovvagnar/

And probably in the end they’ll end up ordering none or either (sorry for the scepticism)
