At a large LA park:

• kids! Playing softball
• grandpas and grandmas! Walking around, talking to friends, playing Chinese opera loudly
• people of many diverse backgrounds and ages

Just some simple things I miss about real cities. San Francisco feels like a very weird, hollowed out city on many fronts. I think if I see a bunch of kids at once in SF I’ll be like ‘wow’. Outside of certain SF neighborhoods (Chinatown, Mission, TL), the city just feels very homogenous and bland to me :/

Okay. What do the bumper stickers on this car say?? This is really distracting me. I think the one on the right says something like "Do It With A ____ _____". I think someone bought a sex joke bumper sticker and accidentally got it immortalized in structural engineering history!!

Recently I read a book about the Chinese community in and around Sacramento. Many of them huddled in smaller, less urban areas because of anti-Chinese violence in San Francisco Chinatown; as well as to flee white supremacists who killed them, at various points throughout the late 19th and early 20th century.

That gives me more perspectives when I read stories like these.

When I cook for loved ones, I pull out all the stops. Tea smoked duck? Homemade bread? Onions ive caramelized for an hour? When I cook for myself it ends up a little strange. I just made beautiful cheese and potato tortillas from scratch and then stuffed them full of Impossible nuggets. Delicious. :)
