Users need an option to block instances

browsing through All has so much pro-fascist posts coming from lemmygrad that it drowns out all the other instances. I'm surprised they're even federated by default but we should have an option to block instances from All if lemmy is deadset on federating with them just because they are fascists with a red and yellow flag......

Sadly some people do this without getting good pay and a cool badge.

I think the instances should be fully connected as possible, but this isn't a design flaw that admins can block instances. It is their resources going into hosting, so they should be able to decide how they want to run their own instances. Having the software prevent them from doing this would be developer overreach.

That is correct

The amount of Russophobia and anti Russian censorship ongoing currently on Reddit is astounding.

I am observing a very similar sentiment to Sinophobia, now regarding Russia. Reddit's audience is primarily 80% USA + West EU, and the rest 20% also includes a lot of East Europe and other countries, leaving for 5-10% anti-hatred people. On the other hand, Western world makes up for a mere 12% of the world's population....

No it’s just a realist view. Great man theory was completely discredited by modern political economy. Read a book.

“It’s not about Putin, it’s about Russia” is a true statement. History is not decided by great men. History is decided by the class struggle and material conditions. And right now, Russia is in a popular front just like China was in WW2. Why? Because the west wants to open up Russia’s economy to foreign interests. They want to privatize Russia’s state oil and gas firms and expropriate the profits. The same thing they have done for the resources of countries all over the world. Proof? You can see it in public. Leaders and pundits in NATO are already floating around the idea of regime change in Russia. They are going to try to start a coup and put in a US friendly leader in Russia.

Video showing wholesome moment between Donetsk father and daughter is falsely labeled as a Ukrainian soldier off to war (nitter.net)

The video was originally posted by mayor of Gorlovka, Ivan Prikhodko on Feb 21 as DPR was evacuating children to Russia while Ukraine attacked. It was reposted and falsely captioned as “Ukrainian father saying goodbye to his daughter before he go to defend his country against the Russian invasion”, with 15k likes and 3k...

Hexbear (the r/chapotraphouse Lemmy fork) is considering unforking (www.hexbear.net)

Nothing official yet, but Hexbear may be bringing some of their previous devs back to contribute upstream. Along with that would come a userbase roughly comparable to lemmy.ml’s daily activity. Their daily megathread regularly surpasses 1000 comments

I hope they do it. I thought it was a mistake when they decided to rewrite the codebase with no hope of merging the federation changes. Federating their community could have brought thousands of active users into the lemmy network. Instead, it became this isolated community. I’m glad they are reconsidering now.

The transparent background can sometimes lead to low contrast. But transparency is cool. Someone else with graphic design experience might have better feedback for choosing colors which contrast better with inconsistent background colors

I’d get it but I don’t want my computer to turn sideways
