Holy crap I found this box on the ground and.... I own this set. They're from like the late 80s and are all about the Reagan and Bush era drug war stuff. There are a couple other similar sets I have for other scandals of the era.

Oh God. I was talking about the r/child free people the other day, and I just learned there are "dogfree" people too. I am so uncomfortable. They even make up their own vocabulary for how much they hate dogs.

It's not even a safety issue for most of them, they're just annoyed by dogs and their owners. Dog shit in outdoor areas for the most part.

so for a while the grocery store was being extremely annoying with their theft detection -- basically, if you put your own reusable grocery bag in the bagging area, they'd be like HEY YOU LITTLE THIEVING SHIT, STOP IT, and call over the attendant to verify you didn't try to steal anything. combined with the city's mandate to bring your own bags, it made self-checkout a trying experience. but the last couple times, not a peep!

    Had another moment where my phone was like LOL you didn't actually lock me right, now that you put me in your pocket, I'll mess up all of your settings. Never had this problem with the previous phone. Really need to sort this out.

    Got the cheap mandolin yesterday, the exterior looks cosmetically decent, tone is a little tinny and I'm probably going to have to live with the strings drifting a few cents, but doesn't seem to have any buzz, dead spots, etc. Looked at a little Bach chorale and I could pretty much just play it (a little slowly) without even looking, so this could be fun.

    tried using a cribbage board for scorekeeping in Azul, very much preferable to the little cube track. will probably do this for any <4 player game where people get more than a handful of points.

    @iain Yeah, poker chips are great for lower numbers and when there's a pool of VP chips to exhaust (like in Race for the Galaxy). One thing I don't like is that it's slightly harder to tell at a glance when there's a giant pile of them for each player whereas a cribbage board is just a direct better replacement for a racetrack-style scorecard.

    It’s kind of ironic that one of the arguments for return to office is so junior employees can be better onboarded and mentored when those same companies are also planning to replace those juniors with AI as soon as they can.
