Mildly annoyed. Thought, okay, my laptop is getting much better Wi-Fi speeds than my desktop with its USB dongle. I'll get a wireless card, that'll be faster! Okay, so I installed it, went from 10-20 to maybe 30-40. Fine but my laptop gets 300...

@DumbPseudonym intel wifi 6 AX201. the new card i got for the desktop is the AX210 (newer!). but it's on lunix. so, maybe that's the issue.

okay so i'm going to put a fast wireless/bluetooth card (not USB dongle) into my old desktop that i run fedora on. I need one that is:

  1. fast
  2. works with no hassles on linux
  3. seriously i need both of those. I can get 500Mbps down on my windows laptop, get only 10 on this desktop

I think the answer is any intel-based chips? my issues in the past have been non-intel, so that might be it.

Kolectiva users: we're radical, but we hate armed resistance movements!

@InternetEh i also love how when they do that they always actually judge the colonizers more leniently!

oh man so somebody fell on hard times -- walked by the pawn shop, there's a rather nice (epiphone) les paul for way too much money in the window next to a really nice marshall (for way too little money). seriously, though, i just bought an amp yesterday for good money off somebody, if i didn't, i'd be very seriously considering storming in there and getting it, it's criminally underpriced unless it's either broken or not what it looks like. #guitar #amp #marshall

it's a Marshall DSL40CR for $399. very good price. unless it's actually a DSL40C or is broken in some way.

The thing about RFK and his :lowly: is clearly just hypochondria. The guy basically just selects the doctor who tells him he has a disease where his skeleton is going to leap out of his mouth and escape down the street rather than the boring ones who don't say that

@InternetEh hmm eat more vegetables, or try this one weird trick?

Every new pitch I hear for "AI" makes me think wow they must have come up with some interesting new technique, otherwise these claims are obviously false. And then you look into it and it's still just a very complex stochastic model underneath. But the financially motivated folks keep claiming that there's actual factual based use cases for this stuff and I really am not seeing it.

gzt,
@gzt@hulvr.com avatar

@forensicgarlic yeah, it's hard to come up with ACTUAL USE CASES for these general LLM AIs, they're typically going to be buried in the pipeline, and then the actual use cases turn out to be very hard to actually get right especially with these general models, it's not just a plug and play. meanwhile actual decent AI/ML, generally modestly sized models special built for the task, keep chugging along...

The IDF announced 50 wounded/casualties from yesterday alone. That's a really big number for them to admit. (And it's almost certainly higher)

The resistance is stepping it up. I've been surprised at the complexity of their techniques and operations. They only seem to fight better and harder as the occupiers are "crushing" them

18+ gzt,

@InternetEh I hope they lose and get crushed

now I just need a good mandolin. and maybe to replace my 61-key keyboard with a full size piano. and of course a bass amp and electric amp instead of using this headphone amp. and...

one of the selling points, besides filling out my ability to play whatever i want, is how light it is, given how my back has been bothering me lately.

i really need to find a place that will convert my mandolin book into a comb-bound book

why do any of these books come in editions other than plastic comb bound???

gzt,
@gzt@hulvr.com avatar

@davepolaschek Yeah, that's the thing... they used to, do they still? But I should give it a whirl, what's the worst that could happen?

gzt,
@gzt@hulvr.com avatar

@davepolaschek exactly, they've all seemed to be shifting more toward self-service, print-on-demand, etc.

gzt,
@gzt@hulvr.com avatar

@forensicgarlic yeah that's what I'll try (well, FedEx) unless I find a real local business that does this stuff, but print shops in general seem more B2B...

gzt,
@gzt@hulvr.com avatar

@Stacky cool I'll try once I'm back in the saddle
