hitmyspot,

Why do we need girls locker rooms when we’ve had the technology for mixed gender locker rooms for generations? We call them doors and use them even in single gender bathrooms.

Certainly it’s inappropriate for sexual predators to be able to leer at girls or women, but there I also no need to have a lack of privacy from those of the same gender, if that’s what people wish.

hitmyspot,

How shocking. Why is he even involved in these decisions. Attention?

hitmyspot,

I don’t know. There’s plenty of evidence that trump consorted with known sex traffickers and he was elected president. It would seem like quite a specific search. If AI is going to background check us all, it’s likely that they will find dirt on everyone.

hitmyspot,

Who,purposely didn’t to seem endearing or be underestimated. He plays a character.

hitmyspot,

No, you can vote at any polling station. If you vote in your district, they cross you off their list. If you’re outside your district, they look you up. Also, it’s a requirement to vote or you get fined. Elections are on a Saturday and you must be allowed to leave work to go vote if needed.

hitmyspot,

So, the Israelis are genociding Jews or non Jews?

hitmyspot,

It will be slightly different for all, it most posts are on the top 10 instances. Beehaw, hexbear and dbzero are defederated from some instances. So those posts and comments will be absent on instances that don’t federate. Yes, you may miss some content due to that. But you can change instance if its generally content you want to see.

There will be some difference based on voting too, depending on how you sort.

If younspin up an instance and federate within the top instances, you’ll see more content than those instances that have more users but defederate from some. However, community discovery will be lower, so you might miss content in other ways.

Try not to think of content as complete anywhere. You can’t read all comments on any social media. Just participate within communities you like and are federated with.

hitmyspot,

I assume they mean in the original term, that technology should be used to make life better, not to damage peoples employment.

Somehow (through no fault of my own) I was not fired today...

Long story short, I’m a security guard and after a couple of months decided that with a history of suicidal ideation I probably shouldn’t carry a pistol, I told the doctor at my work, they said I could no longer carry a pistol and I figured they were going to bring me in today (yesterday now), fire me and that’s that....

hitmyspot,

Are you in the USA? Most other countries, security would not carry a pistol, so perhaps they feel you can still do your job?

The fact that they want you working days instead may be a sign they are trying to work wkth you to find a solution but don’t feel firing you is warranted.

Do you want to be fired? If security is not for you, you’d be better served finding a different job and continuing to work days until you find something else that hopefully you like and is better for your mental health. Even working days rather than nights may be helpful.

Please don’t take this the wrong way, but as someone who doesn’t work security nor janitorial, I’d think of a janitor as a harder worker worth better hours and needing more training/experience. Security is often better paid but more dangerous, with unsociable hours, hence the pay. Your comment made it sound like you think yourself better. However, I presume you intended it as just that you can’t complete security tasks.

I’d go in tomorrow with an open mind.

hitmyspot,

They are saying that while homelessness exists, no protests to save people from a genocide are valid. Homelessness should be solved at hone before any aid abroad.

The point is to say that if those protesting really cared, they would volunteer for the homeless or give them tents rather than protest themselves in tents.

Its a false equivalence to undermine them.

Austrian officials warn the country's Raiffeisen Bank International off Russian oligarch deal over fears of sanctions (www.reuters.com)

Austrian authorities have urged Raiffeisen Bank International (RBI) to drop a deal linked to a Russian oligarch fearing a backlash from the United States, people familiar with the matter said, a blow to RBI’s plans to unlock funds stranded in Russia....

hitmyspot,

You’d think they would do it due to risk of repercussions from the central bank on Austria, rather than overseas. Makes them look amateur. Subservient to Russia and usa, with a lack of morals.

hitmyspot,

Yes, his ‘kitchen sink realism’ movies are seen as great character studies of brotish working class life.

hitmyspot,

Probably because his ideas is what made popular psychology known to the world. His ideas have largely been debunked but there are nuggets that have been developed and become something different, rather than abandoned.

His ideas about ego, id superego etc are more commonly understood than the current psychiatric terms.

So, just like we call it pop culture, pop psychology is well known and he’s the head.

hitmyspot,

Both is better. Centralised is more efficient for maintenance and cost. Distributed allows less transport cost for the power and less chance of total failure, ut more chance of individual failure.

One of the issues with transitioning is the grid is designed with large plants in mind. Using existing infrastructure more efficiently makes renewables more attractive for investment, which hastens the transition.

hitmyspot,

Yes, considering many games might be stuck on unity with months or years of sunk cost development, so they don’t change until the next project. At that point, Godot will be even more developed, so more attractive.

I assume many games that are AAA will negotiate their own terms. Some will use unity until they get burned later with fees. Eventually as godot comes to parity, unity will be pointless.

This is not an industry where people won’t be contributing to the source code, I can understand how not many programmers keep gimp up to date with photoshop. This is an industry of programmers. Godot is undoubtedly the future, now.

hitmyspot,

No, lots of PlayStation games have allowed for a free update to the ps5 version.

Sony’s licensing has been odd, though but I have no doubt that its easily doable and moneynisnthe issue.

I am a long term PS+ subscriber. This constant deprecation and nickel and diming is going to make my next purchase a steam deck. I only subscribe for online play, the games are a bonus. They are usually not my tyoe. Or often are just bad.

As console gaming and PC gaming converge, crappy console walled garden stuff just moves players awaybfrom consoles. They marker ps4 or ps5 games as separate products, but in reality, they are the same product with different graphics libraries (among other differences). With a PC, with fragmentation, I get to choose those assets as my hardware changes. On a console, they lock in with less choice and then try and charge again when I upgrade my hardware? Why would I choose the poorer, more expensive product?

hitmyspot,

except that the uk ageeed to controls between mainland and Northern Ireland. They are now turning a blind eye, as it’s politically expedient. Shafting Northern Ireland yet again.

hitmyspot,

Wow, talk about trying to scare people into not protesting. However, it could have the opposite effect. Take away from the protestors and they have less to lose. They may start to shine a light on injustices at home, too.

hitmyspot,

Yes, but most didn’t have consequences and managed to effect change. Even if it wasn’t as much change as they wanted.

It looks like they are trying to use heavy handed tactics and fear, as well as self interest to quell the action. Its unlikely to work well as most are doing so selflessly.

In fact it may embolden others rather than scare them off, or increase from a peaceful protest to having masks for anonymity etc.

Yes, many suffered repercussions for Vietnam era protests bit they wear it with a badge of pride now and conscription is done politically. Mental health of personnel. Is also considered more, RHA is to protests and sympathy.

hitmyspot,

For me, he was one of the only good things in that movie. It was a departure for Khan, but I thought he did well with the material. In saying that, I lost interest with the other movies since that one, even though I enjoyed it.

hitmyspot,

So take away their broadcast licence or party registration. They love to pretend to be victims.

hitmyspot,

Universal basic income means no requirement to do anything.

However as a worker in healthcare, I’d probably continue as I am.

hitmyspot,

The domain for my email is gmail.com not Aussie zone. I also cannot log in to gmail on the hotmail (outlook? )site. Perhaps you are interpreting their request to not use username and site name and instead use email, to instead use a long form Lemmy username?

That could work, but I don’t know that it adds any extra layer of simplicity, but maybe that’s what they meant. My interpretation is that they are saying to link your account to your email address, as that’s what most other services do. Without knowing which instance you register with, there would need to be a registry. Perhaps this could be hashed in some way, but it would still be effectively public facing as any instance would need access.
