I live in Canada where we definitely have different types of weather.

I edit podcasts so you don't have to at LemonProductions.ca.

I write a weekly newsletter: https://buttondown.email/lemonpodcasting?tag=frommastodon

Anti-nazi + anti-fascist.

Is there a tool that lets me bookmark pages so they go directly into a newsletter platform (Hubspot or Behiiv)?

I make my newsletter by bookmarking interesting things I find throughout the week and copying and pasting them into the newsletter later.

It seems inefficient, and I figure there must be a more automated way. I'd like to send the bookmarks directly to the newsletter platform, but I haven't found anything.

[UPDATE: Curate.co is just what I wanted. See @davidhooper's reply below.]

@ichris@mastodon.social avatar

@grammargirl I used to do that method, then I switched to just always having my newsletter open in a tab and copy / pasting everything into it as I find it. Then when it comes time to send it out, I just delete / rewrite / edit what makes sense then?

I love when car dealerships reveal they are overpricing cars. Ask to drive some hot new car they are selling for $20k over asking price—they'll say "it's not available for test drives, our insurance disallows it" even if they sell other cars costing 2-3x at the same lot.

Why? If someone wrecked the car on a test drive, insurance would only give them the list price of the car (minus their fake 20k over). It's not worth dealer price to any insurance company since the dealer set the wild price.

@mathowie See this is the kind of thing you should be posting on your TikTok Matt. 😆

2018 simultaneously seems like ages ago and like yesterday.

It's wild how far we've come and what big things are close on the horizon. Can't wait for y'all to see what's been brewing all this time.

@shshaw @codepen Congratulations! I still feel like it was just yesterday I was editing the "welcome Shaw to our team" episode. lol

If Twitter thinks paying $1 will deter bot makers on Twitter, clearly they’ve never been to a concert where someone’s paid over $300 to get so drunk they can’t remember where they are only to get thrown out after three songs.

@zachleat 😆🤣 I'm way too cheap to ever pay for that much alcohol anywhere.

Somehow the 2nd gen AirPort Express I bought back in ~2012 continues to work and stream music to my stereo. I keep waiting for the update that breaks it, and I have to go buy a new AirPlay supported amp.

I think it’s my oldest + still in use Apple product.

I'm doing a new blog thing where I get something from Dribbble/Layers > re-create in Figma as something actually realistic > build it out with HTML and CSS.

I need a name for it tho that needs to be snappy.

So far I've got “Inspo to IRL” but meh.

Any ideas?

One of the things I didn’t appreciate about an e-reader is how having the book cover on the device reminds me that I have a book to read in a way that Libby on my iPhone never has. My iPhone reminds me of the time. Of messages. Of reminders.

My Kobo reminds me of a story to be read.

I know it isn’t Apple’s way of doing business, but I still maintain that selling Apple TV hardware at a loss would benefit their entire ecosystem. If there were Apple TV’s most places there’s an iPhone, game developers would want to develop for the platform like an Xbox or Switch. https://www.macrumors.com/guide/2024-apple-tv/

ichris,
@ichris@mastodon.social avatar

@Chris Exactly! There's no way I can justify an Apple TV to a friend who's looking for some sort of streaming dongle. Privacy isn't enough. :)

Updates coming to Patreon, including an option for a free tier. The new logo kind of looks like a weird kidney though? https://www.theverge.com/2023/10/4/23899694/patreon-app-redesign-creator-pages-community-chats

Why your podcast needs a website : When I’m linking to your podcast from another podcast’s show notes, I’m not putting Spotify, Apple, YouTube, Pocket Casts, Podtail, Podchaser, Libsyn, RSS, BlueBorfy, PodTats, CastsThatArePods, etc. links.

I’m putting one so listeners can decide.

I may be in the minority here, but I don't like the trend of having episode art that's different for every podcast episode — at least not when the images have no recognizable connection to the brand.

Maybe it's just the podcast player I use, but now, when I'm looking at the list of new episodes from shows I subscribe to, I can't even tell which show they're from. They've lost all branding.

ichris,
@ichris@mastodon.social avatar

@grammargirl I agree. I also agree as a podcast editor who's slightly lazy and doesn't want to have to come up with even more assets for every episode. :)

The one place it looks good is on a podcast's website where episodes stand out from each other.

Ok let’s see if @chriscoyier has a blog post coming up on this: What’s the best iPhone car mount with magsafe charging? The only one Apple lists is a $110 mophie vent mount which I always feel a bit sketchy about using vents to hold up the phone.

What’s in your vehicle? https://www.apple.com/ca/shop/product/HQ6L2ZM/A/mophie-wireless-charging-vent-mount-with-magsafe

ichris,
@ichris@mastodon.social avatar

@chriscoyier That's the best set up I've seen and what we have in our van. I was hoping by now there'd be more magsafe car things so you can just throw it on and go. 🤷‍♂️

That’s twice in one week where @chriscoyier has read my mind on a decision I was waffling on and written a blog post telling me exactly what I should do. Earlier it was web hosting, this time it’s about using subdomains for your side projects. https://chriscoyier.net/2023/09/21/use-subdomains/

the weirdest part of the new iPhone Standby mode is I don't know if it's worth getting a whole new bedside stand/charger for it, but I can't answer that unless I someday bought one and lived with it for a few weeks.

Is anyone out there already using Standby and is it nice/useful/fun to have next to your bed?

ichris,
@ichris@mastodon.social avatar

@mathowie I had a stand that worked for me already to do that. I can't say it's necessary but that's mainly because I have a Watch I wear to bed that tells me the time in the middle of the night without having to fumble for my glasses. :)
