Eww. Eww. Eww. The UK televote gave 12 points to Israel. Shame on us.

jack,

@derickr It was announced on TV

@derickr I'm watching the BBC, they showed the votes on screen and Graham read them out

Congratulations Switzerland!

A very worthy winner.

Croatia should be very proud of coming second, too.

The UK is on the left side of the scoreboard on the jury vote 🤯

Remember when the biggest controversy about 2024 was that the EBU were desperate for it to be held in Sweden for the 50th anniversary of ABBA winning?

Ah, good times. I remember them fondly.

Me, feeding 2 people and 2 cats on a 60k EUR salary without benefits (because technically self-employed), reading those comments that claim a 501(c)(3) is some kind of nefarious scheme to hide money 😐

jack,
@jack@allnutt.net avatar

@yannikbloscheck @Gargron

In their 2022 annual report (published October 2023) they listed this as one of their goals:

"Set up a US non-profit branch (501(c)(3)) with a board of governors to become eligible for larger grants from US-based donors and allow US donors to make their contributions tax-deductible"

https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2023/10/annual-report-2022/

I'd hardly call setting up that US entity six months later as coming "out of the blue without prior warning"...

I setup DKIM & SPF ages ago, & just did DMARC, DMARCly's says it's fine, but mail-tester is showing harderror - hints?

@penguin42 sp=1? Shouldn't sp be one of "none", "quarantine" or "reject"?

Is there a version of FourSquare / Swarm for the Fediverse?

I want to check in to a specific location and share that online. Not looking for badges and mayors etc.

Just a geotagged post saying "I am here".

jack,
@jack@allnutt.net avatar

@Edent @darius @ldodds

There is a native Arrive activity[0] in the ActivityStreams vocabulary, that would probably be more semantically useful to such a service?

(I suspect that Mastodon and most other fedi software would ignore these, though?)

There's also a native Place object, too.[1]

@Wolfie_Rankin Transcription for those that can't read the text in the screenshot of the Twitter thread:

Dave Wiskus: The app store team at @LGUS has informed us that the inclusion of "LGBTQ+ content" is a violation of their policy, and we need to remove the Nebula app in 46 countries.

Lest anyone claim "it's the law," we have NOT received any such claims from Samsung, Apple or Google.

Trying to install some more smart switches and there's just not enough room in these tiny-ass back boxes to fit everything in.

There are neutral cables (yay!) but damned if I can Tetris my way into connecting them.

jack,
@jack@allnutt.net avatar

@tony The switches I have (from Samotech) don't require a neutral (though they do have a neutral terminal) - ironically I think I could just about make everything fit if the neutral cables weren't there...

The smart bulb route has the downside of not being able to turn the lights off at the switch and then on using the smarts otherwise I'd go for them instead

Edent, to linux
@Edent@mastodon.social avatar

Very strange. Taken delivery of some new USB-C cables. But they don't work with HDMI.

My USB-C port supports HDMI.
My USB-C dock supports HDMI.
A different brand of cable carries video from laptop->dock->monitor.

These new cables carry data, they max out my broadband (330MBps), they do PowerDelivery.

But not video!

Is this a problem with the cable itself, or something else? Any way to test them?

(Not here for your hot takes on , , or . Actually looking for advice.)

jack,
@jack@allnutt.net avatar

@Edent There are cable testers like https://caberqu.com/home/20-c2c-caberqu-746052578813.html which might be able to show if it's the cable or something else (though it's probably the cable if others work fine...)

    @GossiTheDog they know that the ICO couldn't regulate its way out of a wet paper bag so, from their perspective, why not delay publication if there's no penalty?

    :oof:

    The UK's Electoral Commission has suffered a cyber attack.

    The attackers had access to the electoral registers for 2014 to 2022, as well as the Commission's email system.

    Anonymous electors' details weren't included in the breach.

    https://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/privacy-policy/public-notification-cyber-attack-electoral-commission-systems

    (it's worth noting that a lot of people can access electoral registers, but the scale of this both in terms of geography and time is... bad.)

    Guess I'll update when the new docker images have been released in 3 to 5 business days

    @losttourist This Mastodon release looks like it's just bug fixes in the Streaming API (primarily a memory leak)
