Hi! I'm @_jv_ and https://tumblr.com/jv, but this is my little instance where I'm doing a bit of an experiment to merge both. Basically, I'm trying to build a tumblr-like platform that runs on the fediverse. I called it Goblin, and you can find the source code here:

Shit is going down HARD in Eurovision right now.We are hours from the beginning of the fest and in the last couple of hours:

The french artist stopped his song during the dress rehearsal today, gave a speech about peace, and left the stage

The Irish ones sent a press release asking the EBU to disqualify Israel for the comments their broadcaster had done about the Irish song

Both Ireland and Greece didn't show up to the festival flag parade that kickstarts the show.

Norway's artist who were going to be the spokesperson of the jury tonight announced she is declining to participate... An hour ago, about 8 hours before she would have to go live

Fuck, this may very well be the end of Eurovision as a cultural force in Europe.

What's going on:

The Dutch artist have been showing some mild unease at the Israel presence there this year during the past week. The Irish ones have been forced to change their looks because it included the words "ceasefire" and "freedom for Palestine" in ancient gaelic script.

Yesterday, someone from the Israel delegation staff joked about the dutch artist's father death (the Dutch song is dedicated to him) and there was "an incident" (undisclosed, but the rumor-mill says the Dutch guy may have punched the jokester it looks it was only a verbal confrontation)

Eurovision have disqualified the Netherlands from today's final.

The Dutch broadcaster association (those who pick who to send to EV) posted this a few hours ago:

There has been protest within the Finnish public broadcaster asking for Finland withdrawal

The head of the political party who is the junior partner in the government of Spain is also calling for our withdrawal.

The Israeli delegation seem to have spent the week literally harassing anyone they perceive as critical, with several complains about their behavior already being published.

The Israeli song is one of the favorites to win, and if they do, next year Eurovision would be organized by them. If that happen, there is no way several countries wouldn't just refuse to take part.

So yeah, there is a chance this may be it for the festival. Good job, Eurovision. Great fucking job.

Something some people may be missing from the Rafah ongoing massacre is how small the place is. The town is about the size of Manhattan. So when the IDF orders people to leave "east Rafah" it's like telling them to vacate four or five avenues they are going to bomb and move to the ones next to it. They have nowhere to flee.

A spanish journalist covering Eurovision got harassed by his Israeli colleagues after he shouted "Free Palestine!" during the Israel rehearsal, and that has prompted the Spanish national broadcaster to fill a complaint with the Eurovision organizers prompting them to ensure the safety of the press.

Should we allow anonymous asks? In Tumblr they have been both fun and a massive pit of evil shit. In the Fedi, I could add them as truly anon (in Tumblr they were almost entirely anon, it just logged you up), make them so the admins could see who they asked them, or just skip anon asks entirely

And yeah, i know, "make everything configurable"... But that takes more time and probably will have to be done in an iterative way, so what you would prefer for a first version?

Ed Zitron (@zitron)'s podcast "Better Offline" is slowly becoming the best record of the systematic destruction of the commons on internet we now know as "enshittification".

He is not afraid of pointing at people, of putting names behind the shit we all get to experience daily.

It's one of the few media that pushes against the mainstream tech press narrative of genius boys laying out a golden path for humanity, and actually talking about the reality we all get to see. And let me tell you, as someone who works within the industry, Ed's approach is way closer to what I've experienced than any others reports on the inner workings of tech.

His last podcast on how tech execs get rewarded by literally making things worse, calling out Instagram 's Adam Mosseri and Sam Altman as what they are: ruthless and crooked salesman, is outstanding and a must listen if you have been outraged by any of the big changes in the internet in the last few years:

(Not saying Zitron is the only one calling the bullshit out of tech industry. Others are doing an excellent job, like 404 media. Well, since the Trump years, the Great Replacement theory had been widely discussed in the mainstream US media and I find it hard to believe he hasn't heard about it. And one side, while someone could argue this may be a mishap, he has been having this kind of mishappens where he happily comments or promotes borderline fascist content, like the Andreeeesssssen fascism-inspired manifesto, or when he started to praise Anduril's founder out of the blue (I guess he is a fan of the killing drones Anduril makes).

So well, he either is a convinced white supremacist (I don't think so), or he is more than willing to enable and tolerate them if he has anything to win by it (that's what I think it's happening).

Now, If you ask me, I see little difference between both.

Saying "he wasn't really a Nazi, he only joined the party after Hitler got in power" doesn't really compile in my brain

None of those figures has gone under 0 in the last 50 years (and probably before, I just don't want to look for more data). The population collapse the are talking about is about WHITE population. If someone talks about population decline, they are a white supremacist.
