I will post obituaries when I have the time, but right now we're in crisis mode. We suspect all or most of our cats have been poisoned. Three have died, one is missing, and one (Princess, seen below) is in critical condition and spasming as I type this. It's horrific to see her like this, but at least she's home with us (vet lent us their oxygen tank and we have an IV set up). The rest are receiving pretreatment and we hope they don't show symptoms.

So far, my wife has lost her most beloved cats, including Hendricks, who survived absolutely everything, from people shooting him, a car running over him, and numerous kidney failures; and Caramel, who greeted us every time we came home and would ask for motorbike rides around the neighbourhood. My heart is heavy for both the cats and her suffering.

I thought I'd seen the worst of people, but this is a new depth of despicable. Who poisoned them and why, I don't know.

The first thing Lelly and I are doing since she got back is (1) visiting her sister with gifts from Maluku, and (2) listening to from the Kridosono roundabout. 😂

Hopefully I'll get a chance to see them properly in the future and not from across a street with the cops lmao.

In the first shot, Sepultura plays in the background, from beyond a giant wall. The shot starts with a view of a paper cup of coffee, before we pan to the right and show the wall. In the second shot, a faraway stage is viewable from beyond a gate. In both shots, traffic passes by consistently.

If humans had any collective decency in this world, we would:

  1. Give up large tracts of land to build a fortress of introspection for the panda bears.

  2. Give the the space and time to think, wonder, and pontificate.

  3. And finally, ask them what's on their mind.

The answers would potentially surprise us and could even lead to world peace.

My lovely wife in one of the small-scale gold mines they're sampling.

Something that eludes me is the fact that, despite all of the hazards that come with gold mines and having to trek every day, she's really healthy there, getting none of the headaches, exhaustion, or malaise she feels in Yogyakarta.

Is being a lecturer that bad? Is it the city's pollution? Is it the (exclusively fish/egg) diet on Obi?

I always thought she was generally unwell, but evidently it's not her. 🤷

@lesighlepurr What, seriously? When he died, the title passed to the male side of his wife's family, so maybe one of them? Although none of them hold any formal power, just as he didn't.

I keep getting emails from my employer about how they are the "#1 public university," and ive only been here a few months, but the widespread consensus and every interaction ive had with it suggests that it is broken as fuck. So ya those metrics are meaningless.

"The Laboratory of Ecology and Conservation is Stuck in the Middle of Nowhere"

I agreed to make a video for the lab if I was given carte blanche and a couple days with the staff. Lelly (who is also my wife ;) ) and I decided on a delightfully subversive music video with a sudden tonal shift midway through. We had seven days to make it, four of which were spent on filming, leaving for many a sleepless night last week. 😆

It's late at night and I'm in an empty cafe because it's really hot at home. After I ordered, the barista changed the music on the radio from Indonesian pop to Spanish/Portuguese jazz. This has now happened in two cafes. 😂

I don't mind, but I've literally never listened to as much Iberian music as I have in Indonesia. 😆
