In this house, father's day doesn't mean getting drunk with friends. It means spending time with the kids. You know, embracing the dad life.

OK, I did get some presents and a nice brunch.

I've been catching up with some games I buy for the kids, and recently played Planet of Lana and Gris on the switch. Both show an interesting trend, in that they're very beautiful games, but strangely empty.

I notice this in particular with the first, because it reminds me a lot in how the character steers of @jmechner 's Prince of Persia, or Flashback. And compared to either of these games, there is very little going on in each screen in terms of obstacles or puzzles.

And then there are...

Not so long ago, I finished parking about 900 computing related papers, books and magazines in my paperless instance. I felt like I'd finally finished the annoying work of fixing titles and tagging stuff.

Then I remembered the ca. 400 RPG related PDFs.

So I finally finished reading The Expanse with book 9. It took me a while, as I'm generally not reading as much as I'd like to these days.

Anyway, I think it was a good end to the series. Really good, actually.

So we finished watching the Fallout TV show the other day, and... well let's just say it's a stark reminder that the main plots are not the strength of the game series.

Without wanting to spoiler anything, the show follows a similar-ish thread as the main quest of Fallout 3 for one character, but adds in the perspectives of two other characters - which the games might have provided in side quests or message logs you might have found, etc.

Regarding themes, both in terms of design and...

Recent LinkedIn experience.

Them: OMG kids these days!

Me: yeah, well, we've been degenerating at least since Plato.

Them: OK.

Me: well, he also complained about the youth of his day.

Them: yes, I know, it was the topic of an episode of Mad Men.

I mean, sarcasm in writing is a difficult thing to catch, but I don't really see how I can make it more obvious.

Good illustration of the difference between knowing and understanding, I guess?

Kids: with one hand they giveth, with the other they taketh away. My kids only giveth.

Yesterday, they giveth me a huge mess in the kitchen.

Today, they giveth the cake they made yesterday.

This morning I'm reminded of a person I knew, who would treat everything as an attack, or the potential for one.

You might say "good morning" to them, and their reply would be a snapped "what do you want?".

It's rather difficult to deal with, because any reply to this would get twisted out of shape in similar way.

So what do you do? Ignore them? Seems like the only way.

Except... it must be hell to live like this. And nobody chooses this kind of hell for themselves. This is trauma...

Why do people put fucking cow juice in everything?

I hate that some undeclared drop of that shit in food that shouldn't rightfully contain any fucks up my day, and probably several to come.

Not to mention that some calf was yanked from its mother for this, and then made into veal cutlets.

The world truly doesn't need that crap.

So, folks, when you speak about Arch Linux, be aware that "Arch" sounds like a slightly misspoken "Arsch" to Germans, which means arse.

Butting into conversations with "I use Arch, btw" sounds different to us.

Just sayin'

I love in lieu of bookmarks that go stale.

I love for making my collection of articles, papers, technical books, etc. more searchable and manageable.

What I'm missing are two things:
a) an easy pipeline from archivebox to paperless. Basically, if there is a linked PDF or I have a readable PDF, I'd rather have "it" as a Document in paperless than as an archived URL.

b) All of this running as a local app instead of some web stuff.

Mind you, both require...

So many unpatched servers.

Every server that I'm currently receiving spam from hasn't patched CVE-2024-23832.

Please do so immediately if you run an instance. If like me you're using @mastohost - kudos for taking this seriously!
