The death of the writer has arrived. Vox have pretty much nailed it in their piece on self promotion.

In the social media era, writers must become podcasters, graphic designers, videographers, and conventionally attractive TikTok models to gain an audience.

The profession of "writer" no longer exists - only the "influencer" remains.

A thread on the demise of the solitary writing life…

@Daojoan I wrote an obituary for the death of Copywriting in 2011. So long ago I had to look for it on my museum of a portfolio. (The possessive apostrophe at the end was a joke to a proofreader colleague - another dead profession.) http://blog.writecausecreative.com/2011/09/in-loving-memory-death-of-copywriting.html?m=1

jodmentum,

@anathema_device They call it rescue. I call it cheating. Play the game like everyone else mom and dad. You want that kid, find fifty cents and try your luck.

I know I follow someone from Utah and I think someone from Central Florida but I can’t remember who is who, especially because ppl don’t use their real names and few use real photos of themselves and it’s driving me nuts. If you’re one or the other lemme know.

Regrowing bok choy, Chinese mustard greens and green onions from end cuts. Easy peasy.

It cuts both ways, but if a state government in any country, defies its federal government shouldn’t the federal govt cut off all monies to the state government?

The same way a parent cuts off a kid’s allowance when they break house rules?

North Korea now using AI in nuclear program: report

jodmentum,

@augieray just thinking about how when my parents bought their house my dad said he was OK with a few miles from a nuclear reactor (defense target - because Cuba) because if it came down to it he wanted to be vaporized and not living in the aftermath of a nuclear holocaust and a rise of the machines. Pragmatic man he was.

"There's a huge difference between simply planting a and making sure that trees survive and grow over the long-term.

[It requires] the necessary ecological understanding, long-term planning and follow-up.

By deepening their focus on improving practices, organizations and their supporters will have the best possible chance of achieving positive impact and avoiding unintended consequences."

jodmentum,

@CelloMomOnCars decades ago a developer bulldozed through the jungle. A non profit that plants trees called him out on it because he had no idea he needed a permit. So he hired them and planted thousands of trees. They monitored growth over years but despite their warnings, he went cheap on one type of tree that grows fast…. and falls over even faster during our tropical rainstorms.

The rabbit hole I have gone down reading about mammograms, ultrasounds, density factors and that the medical community doesn’t have enough info to agree on methodology that makes sense, combined with science not prioritizing women’s health and a massive effort to not study how diet can affect density is infuriating.

    jodmentum,

@MondayMarionJ @flightnature it’s basically all there is. 3D is rec over 2D and even w it ultrasound. There are newer MRIs called AbMRIS that are fast but require contrast and because they take 10-20 min, facilities don’t like or know how to schedule or charge. There’s no standard other than for density issues that find what appear to be fibroadenomas to retest in 6mos to monitor changes.

    jodmentum,

@MondayMarionJ @jodmentum @flightnature it’s likely because of the newer guidelines. I just wish we could have one of those Star Trek /The Orville health scanning wands.

    jodmentum,

@GQB @MondayMarionJ @flightnature I’m just so frustrated with the guidelines. In Costa Rica the radiologist reviews mammogram immediately and then personally does ultrasound - asking lotsa questions. They don’t understand the US system of a tech doing ultrasounds and patients having to wait a week waiting for results. So many countries do mammogram every 2 years but for high density issues it should be 6 mos.

This interview of Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL) demonstrating that she takes credit for laws she voted against is absolutely fantastic.

But it's also incredibly rare in American media. That's because the "both sides" framework is not a mistake. They deliberately choose to coddle Republicans and allow them to get away with blatant lying.

We need more journalism like what Miami CBS reporter Jim DeFede engaged in here.

It's time to end the "right privilege" that reactionary Republicans enjoy.

    jodmentum,

@guacamayan @mattsheffield Jim Defede and Jerry Iannelli (when he was with Miami New Times) are rarities.

Makrut Lime and Caviar Lime potted with surrounding marigolds. Hierba Buena back inside on kitchen window ledge - Garlic greens growing well, green onion buds from cuttings regrowing, Chinese Mustard greens regrowing, indoor lavender flowering. Might have to bring the outdoor one inside. Lengua de Suegra transplanted in several places and all looking good. Flor de Jamaica seedlings just appeared - hoping they grow into the big bushes we had before with yummy leaves and flowers. whew.

    jodmentum,

@GQB i have it growing in the ground outside - planted in sunny spot but during rainy season. One in a pot outside was getting scorched and wasn't watered properly, so it's been moved. The window sill gets indirect sunlight and seems to be doing well but I just transplanted it a few days ago. This might help. Water and soil are key. https://www.gardenerreport.com/how-often-to-water-lavender/

    jodmentum,

@GQB can you find somewhere south facing with at least four hours sunlight? Also keep it away from pets - toxic for them. It grows abundantly here during dry season and will probably get root rot here in winter/rainy season. Indoors water about every two weeks. Doesn’t like humidity.

    jodmentum,

@GQB I live in Costa Rica but in higher altitude.

Took an old concrete post from a gate and turned it into a hose reel and just chuffed.

    jodmentum,

@GQB in a past life I must’ve lived through a wartime effort of rations because I throw nothing away and usually find a purpose for it- this week we just took hideous fake wood baseboard trim that we removed from walls three months ago and used it as weed barrier for rock drainage along house perimeter.
