I got told the other day, by someone who doesn't live in this country, that things probably aren't as bad as I think they are.

I'm white het cis male. They are almost certainly even worse than I already know, and I know a lot.

@Oliphant of Wisdom :coffefied: Look, i haven't been much to the balkan either. In that regard you don't need to apologize to me personally :) The "basic definition" you are quoting (where is that from exactly?) obviously has strong issues there.

As a Central European i am geographically relatively near to the balkan and i can tell you out of personal experience, also with musicians i play with, that the Balkan is a culturally rich, inspired and of course also politically harshly divided place. Just as beautifully diverse as almost any place, where humans gather.

So... where does that quote originate from?

They com across arrogant. Those people must be from a past time, unable to process neither change nor anything out of their own scope.

    Eons ago, Ferd Frederix, keeper of #Outworldz and maintainer of the #DreamGrid distribution, and Debbie Edwards made four one-page "newspapers" with a #SecondLife theme named Bullshit News.

    Guess what? It's back! Ferd has published a new issue! It's more styled like a magazine now, it has an #OpenSim theme now, and the new issue has three pages. Read it at Virtual-HG, but again, beware the in-jokes.

    This may be an unpopular take, but...
    I don't think any blind person will ever be completely independent. I do, however, think that every blind person can be self-sufficient. Independence, to me, implies a lack of reliance on anyone/anything. But everyone needs help sometimes. Self-sufficiency, on the other hand, is about having the tools you need, and the ability to get assistance, to go where you need to go/do what you need to do.

    I've felt my gallbladder getting a bit more sore the past few days, so I'm probably working towards a bad place. I was supposed to get it removed but I don't have insurance and I can't afford to pay for it, so I've just been waiting for things to put me in the hospital again.

    In the past week I've

    • Rejected a lump sum of money from an incubator to convert Owncast into a business.
    • Told a person who wanted to sell things to Owncast users, offering me a cut, to go to hell.
    • Shut down an initiative from some "AI" company to offer a version of Owncast with their proprietary "content filtering" to stop people from saying naughty words and showing no-no stuff.

    I might not have any income, but I can sure sleep well at night.
