Had to quit smoking weed about a week ago (temporarily, I hope; high prices in CA combined with not enough work ATM means I have to forgo my one vice for now) and GODDAMN my dreams are getting Very Weird, Very Specific, and Very Vivid. It's been interesting but not entirely comfortable.

Last night I dreamed I was feuding intensely with one of my ex wives. Wild threats, dirty tricks, etc, all in painstaking detail, and somehow all feeling even more real than sitting here typing this out...

Listening to field recordings containing percussion jams from my Januar trip to La Reunión/Mauritius.
It's marvelous to drastically limit the frequency response of the original recordings - and then add a slap-back delay, noticably louder than the original and with even more narrow frequency response.
This focusses everything into one. And it lends the quality of an intense & sparkling memory, rather than just appearing to be a full frequency natural #recording. The almost always massive ocean waves in the background are a lovely detail. Beautiful.

So that's that. Now pondering a strategy to recompose all this into a work of its own.

Another FediGroups fact:

FediGroups is basically a "hack" based on Mastodon that recreates Friendica's most basic group/forum functionality on Mastodon. Each group is a Mastodon bot that automatically boosts everything that mentions it. And since it's all based on Mastodon, you have to mention the group in each comment unlike on Lemmy, /kbin, Mbin, PieFed, Friendica, Hubzilla, (streams) etc.

@FediGroups Admin How is a Mastodon group going to work well with Misskey, or any other AP app for that matter? gup.pe works barely on Hubzilla. But we have our own groups, connecting to diaspora and Zot as well. I doubt, that FediGroups is even planned to manage that, or is it?

I recently stumbled upon #^https://github.com/SrS2225a/custom_uploader which is a simple app to share files with hosting services. The app is available via FDroid #^https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.nyx.custom_uploader/

It is very simple to configure a custom uploader for Hubzilla:

  1. Press the cog button
  2. Press the + button to add a new uploader
  3. Select POST as method
  4. Enter the upload URL https://channelname:password@hub.example.com/api/z/1.0/item/update
  5. Set Form Data Name to media

Done.

Sharing a file with this uploader will result in a post to your default privacy group with the file attached or embeded if it's an image.

You could also add a custom text to your upload if you add the body upload parameter or even configure a privacy group to post to if you want.

I tagged #faircamp 0.13.0 for release today, here's what's new:

ALAC supported as input format / New theme option round_corners (https://simonrepp.com/faircamp/manual/theme.html) / RSS feed image is auto-generated, item title includes artists, item description includes release text / Description text on release pages now shows above the fold (previously easily missed) / Waveform width determination at transitional viewport widths corrected and polished / Unnecessary transcoding of intermediate track assets for already existing archive fixed / ... and a few other fixes in code and docs

Debian packages are already updated, other platforms should follow in the next days (I'll post short notes then).

This time around a huge round of applause to all the people (and there are many!) who develop and maintain the libraries that faircamp relies on under the hood, for instance @polyfloyd, whose excellent id3 crate enables faircamp to read mp3 metadata. Thank you! (*_ _)人

Since recently I dissolved my part of the company I've been involved in for the last nine years, I no longer am in control of the server I used to host Funkwhale, etc.

In a way, this is a good thing, as it encourages me to downsize everything in my life. My music will be residing on another server with less space, though wholly controlled by me. My Funkwhale no longer exists apart from its archive.

I used it as a platform to demonstrate my experiments, improvisations and unfinished music. 1/2

For sending invitations of my upcoming exhibition, I ditched mailchimp. And replaced it by… nothing.
I use simply mail and sent the invitations one by one or in tiny groups of related people.
Takes a lot more time, but I never had so much response/conversation, so quickly!
Bye bye newsletter apps, it was fun but now quite inefficient for my kind of ‘business’. :)
