I have a new release on 12", perfect of course for your elevated holidays.

https://post.lurk.org/@jayrope▁jayrope (lurking) wrote the following post Thu, 14 Dec 2023 20:10:19 +0100

Released on 12" via Fluessig Records, Berlin: Wichtige Hinweise, composed and played on modular snyths by nkls and myself between 2019 and 2023.

https://fluessig.bandcamp.com/album/wichtige-hinweise

The album illustrates an ongoing lifeform-type-of conversation nkls and i have since several years about miniatures.
It's as brief and as pure as it can get, the pieces are transmutational and work without any additional deliberate listener pleasing (such as concert reverb ;)
Cover artwork by @[url=https://mastodon.online/[/url]

We hope you'll enjoy.

Berliners can pick up a 12" with me directly for a pre-xmas price of 15€. Please contact via @_jayrope or jayrope.com/cntct/

Your #share/ is appreciated.

jrp,

@Can-crisociality 🦀〰️🥫 The whole of Germany cancels Masha Gessen? That's complete crap.

jrp,

@Can-crisociality 🦀〰️🥫 No, no not argueing. I suppose i have to read the whole thread. However i am reading you saying "I did not know that Germany was canceling Masha Gessen for "antisemitism"" - the whole of Germany is a bit of a broad address there. We have as much diversity as anybody else in this or any other regard. And we don't all eat potatoes or drink beer neither.

jrp,

@Mario Vavti I don't know, if that's related, but i just updated my dev site to 8.9 and /hq only shows a blank page now. /settings remain accessible. /profile/user takes a long time to load, then i get this (see image) on right side. "Loading..." never stops.

Active add-ons are only AuthCHoose, logrot, phpmailer and Pubcrawl.

jrp,

Thank you @Mario Vavti My report was incomplete - and I found the bug in the logs. Superblock was enabled, disabling it stopped the error. Uh. That must have been me causing this, as i was using some code from superblock for a new addon (which was disabled before). My new addon works, superblock doesn't. I guess i am not built for such things, however trying this to get features i am missing, that's why the dev site.

So I've come around to and find it a good thing to have around even if I remain on , as I shall for some time to come.

And my will still be available for as long as I can maintain it.

I'll slowly upload releases to https://faircamp.thurk.org ... If anyone notices any strangeness, please let me know. I'll possibly style it a bit differently in the future.

jrp,

@Flavigula Awesome! :) ... ... but I can't play files nor does anything happen, when i click the $downloads link. Hmm. It's FF 115.4esr - happened to me before with Faircamp, seems it doesn't cater to all browsers or sthg. Pity!

I'm starting to wonder if the effort I put into image descriptions is actually worth it.

Image descriptions are serious business on Mastodon. Not few users refuse to boost posts with pictures without alt-text. Some even try to get everyone whom they see posting images to add a description to them. In fact, some actually criticise alt-text that isn't sufficient. Sometimes I even see people praise other people's alt-text.

I myself usually end up spending many hours describing one measly image. The outcome may pretty well be an alt-text with over 800 characters which mentions that the actual image description is in the post text. And that image description is tens of thousands of characters long.

However, nobody seems to care. It is as if nobody even notices.

Only in a few cases have I ever received any kind of feedback for posts with lengthy image descriptions. The first time I had written an image description with over 10,000 characters, I used it in a thread which I also posted to Lemmy and in which I demonstrated four different ways of posting that image description. It got 19 likes and 2 dislikes, all from Lemmy, none from anywhere else, and it didn't get a single reply. The only times I got a reaction from the rest of the Fediverse, especially Mastodon, was a few times when I either replied to a Mastodon user with an image description or pointed Mastodon users at my image descriptions.

Otherwise, nothing. Not even criticism that my posts are too long. Or that my image descriptions are too long and too detailed. Or that my image descriptions are actually even lacking. Or that image descriptions belong into alt-text and not into the post. I'm not even being criticised for using too many or too few content warnings.

I can't see if my posts are being boosted, but it seems like not even this is happening.

I know that I'm writing about completely uninteresting stuff. I know I'm writing many many times more in one post than typical Mastodon users are willing to read. It just strikes me that neither any of my several hundred followers nor anyone who might be following any of the hashtags I use nor anyone who spots my posts in their federated timeline ever gives any feedback.

For those looking for a BandCamp alternative you should check out the Fediverse alternative, FunkWhale.

https://www.funkwhale.audio

Start your own instance or join one of many listed. There are some talented artists to discover on there. Give it a try!

jrp,

@Mr. Funk E. Dude Funkwhale is more an alternative to Soundcloud (owned by Spotify), than to Bandcamp. There is no way to sell music on Funkwhale currently, which is one base of musician income. An open source alternative, not federating (yet) is #Faircamp: https://simonrepp.com/faircamp/

Insbesondere Friendica, Firefish und v.a.

Wenn Ihr also Anregungen oder Ergänzungen habt, gerne her damit! Danke!

So #Mastodon is introducing #FullTextSearch with version 4.2.0. With #OptIn per account.

As to be expected, people are going completely ape-shit crazy over it and demand either Eugen Rochko take this decision back once and for all or at least an immediate fork with search completely removed and blocked for all Mastodon instances that have search. They don't even trust the opt-in.

In the meantime, most other #Fediverse projects have had full-text search for years. And they've been full-text search-indexing Mastodon toots as well. #Friendica and #Hubzilla have been continuously full-text search-indexing incoming Mastodon toots as long as since 2016.

Not only has there never been an opt-in switch for that, but there hasn't even been an #OptOut switch. There's no protection against it whatsoever, short of defederating your instance from everything that isn't #VanillaMastodon. Which, by the way, is akin to Whack-a-Mole.

Literally. Nobody. Cared. At all. Ever.

Of course not. Because nobody even knew that.

Most Mastodon users still seem to think the Fediverse is only Mastodon. Most of those who don't still can't imagine that anything out there could have features that Mastodon doesn't have. Even if I tell it straight into their faces, they can't grasp it.

I don't really think that ignorance is bliss in this case...

Remember, everyone: #MastodonIsNotTheFediverse. And whatever feature you could imagine in your wildest dreams that Mastodon has, there's at least one project out there that has this feature already now, and that's federated with Mastodon.

P.S.: Even if Mastodon uses an ActivityPub standard feature for search opt-in, for it does, that doesn't mean that the whole rest of the Fediverse will soon respect it.

jrp,

@💭 tinderness @Jupiter Rowland There's room for exceptions in "most" eventually. In certain circles of more adept, long-time Mastodon users the word Fediverse surely has a different meaning, than with recent Ex-Twitter refugees, no?
