Right, syncthing or owncloud/nextcloud?

flavigula,
@flavigula@sonomu.club avatar

@emsquared

I use both.

flavigula,
@flavigula@sonomu.club avatar

@emsquared

I use syncthing to synchronize files I have a tendency to use often on different computers / devices. Nextcloud is for storage that is more long term, such as music projects, which I begin on my desktop PC and then continue later on my laptop and viceversa.

Of course, there are grey areas. Ebooks, for example.

I also rsync backups every night to an external hard drive, but I guess that's a different story.

I also use yggdrasil so I can communicate between machines fluidly.

I tried out for a week on a Pixel 4 I got for a few burritos from some guy down the corner. I was delighted by it. I have now switched wholeheartedly to this operating system. Unfortunately, that means I had to buy a G--gle Pixel phone, and that I did. I flashed Graphene first thing and am content.

Apple fills me with RAGE!

I've been clumsy with a few phones, as well, so I make sure to buy cases to protect the damned things. :)

Since recently I dissolved my part of the company I've been involved in for the last nine years, I no longer am in control of the server I used to host Funkwhale, etc.

In a way, this is a good thing, as it encourages me to downsize everything in my life. My music will be residing on another server with less space, though wholly controlled by me. My Funkwhale no longer exists apart from its archive.

I used it as a platform to demonstrate my experiments, improvisations and unfinished music. 1/2

flavigula,
@flavigula@sonomu.club avatar

As is my preferred platform now, I shall do as I did before within its bounds in a more limited fashion.

My plan is to include "albums" that house experiments. They should be obvious from the crudity of their covers. :)

These will grow and shrink and disappear to make room for further work. All will be free to download. Also, "proper" albums will remain, of course.

Two are up at this very moment!

Thanks again to @keefmarshall for creating faircamp.

@keefmarshall @freebliss

Oh shit. What a faux pas. Apologies and thank you very much, Simon! It's excellent.

flavigula,
@flavigula@sonomu.club avatar

@jrp

That would be far too logical.

flavigula,
@flavigula@sonomu.club avatar

@jrp

It's actually a good idea. Faircamp does support different artists under the same Label, as I have mine & Tim Rowe's album on my site, as well.

The problem is that it's not exactly another artist doing the experiments. Perhaps there is a way to get around that. I think I'll ask Simon directly.

flavigula,
@flavigula@sonomu.club avatar

@keefmarshall @jrp @lislegaard

After talking to Simon, I've decided to create another artist within my "Label" and use the

rewrite_tags: no

option so that anyone who downloads a track will still get a track with "Flavigula" as the artist.

I recently got a guitar cabinet emulator and it sounds great. The problem is that I can't use the configuration utility under linux. Since I am a novice at using , I wonder if anyone has had luck connecting to apparati that plug through usb in wine.

I've made sure the symlink to /dev/ttyUSB0 is there and I assume permissions are correct (though I may be wrong). Scouring the wine forum hasn't helped.

Thanks in advance!

Having just discovered https://mirlo.space, I added our new album ... https://mirlo.space/flavigula/release/nine-sided-die

It appears to be a worthy platform! Check it out.

Imagine saying something as dumbfuck ignorant as, "The 90s were nearly bereft of good [music]" and meaning it...

Yeah, this is in reference to another post but I don't want to get in trouble for calling someone "dumbfuck ignorant" so I'm posting it standalone.

Look, just because you stopped listening to new music in 1983 doesn't mean good music stopped being made then.

flavigula,
@flavigula@sonomu.club avatar

@etherdiver

The sort of stagnation you are describing is widespread and a symptom of a perspective that narrows exponentially as one grows older. I constantly remind myself to never succumb.

? Precarious as a platform that it may be turning out to be, I think I mentioned lately that we have a new album out (or, rather, a pre-order, as the actual album comes out on Tuesday):

    So I've come around to and find it a good thing to have around even if I remain on , as I shall for some time to come.

    And my will still be available for as long as I can maintain it.

    I'll slowly upload releases to https://faircamp.thurk.org ... If anyone notices any strangeness, please let me know. I'll possibly style it a bit differently in the future.

    I don't. Which browser are you using? It works for me in all browsers including chrome, firefox and various others on mobile...That currency / amount makes no sense.

    Which modules are you using for sample mangling?

    flavigula,
    @flavigula@sonomu.club avatar

    @HelenG

    I've been looking at the Bastl Grandfather for sample playback. I wasn't aware that the Disting mk4 had this ability. I used to have a mk 3 and though it was useful, I prefer for a module to do mostly do one thing and one thing well. Perhaps that is my problem, though. :)

    You've mentioned the Blukac Endless Processor before and it remains intriguing. I'm gripping my pocketbook.

    I'm enjoying Kelowna.

    flavigula,
    @flavigula@sonomu.club avatar

    @HelenG

    Now that I know you are using the Endless Processor, I am concentrating on its work.

    You convinced me I need sample playback in my Eurorack setup, so I bought a Bastl GrandPa.

    The second album I owned (Stevie Wonder Talking Book was the 1st), this was the first record I paid my own money for - with a bag of pennies. I ended up owning all of ELP’s work eventually. This one and Trilogy hold up the best imho.

    flavigula,

    I used to have them all on vinyl. Now the only one I have is Trilogy digitally. It was the first i bought and always my favourite.

    This would be quite the module to have! I'm going out right now to buy a new rack so I can fit it into my system!

    Seriously - I would find this very useful.
