Greater Idaho movement: 13 counties in eastern Oregon have voted to secede and join Idaho (ktvz.com)

On Tuesday, voters in Crook County passed measure 7-86, which asked voters if they support negotiations to move the Oregon/Idaho border to include Crook County in Idaho. The measure is passing with 53% of the vote, and makes Crook County the 13th county in eastern Oregon to pass a Greater Idaho measure.

jumjummy,

Exactly this. With the electoral college system, those republican voters count towards the population numbers to assign electors, but the state always goes blue. If these counties move to Idaho, those Republican voters help shift electors to Idaho, and will go red.

Sorry, the US election process is broken, and we don’t need more games by republicans to sneak in more electoral votes. I hope this measure never sees the light of day.

jumjummy,

You do know that Ticketmaster encourages, or at the very least does nothing to stop these bots and scalpers. Hell, they even facilitate this on their own sites. With a service fee at every turn, they make these fees multiple times on any given ticket when resold.

Fuck ticketmaster and I hope their monopoly gets broken.

jumjummy,

The streaming vertical integration really irks me. Say what you will about the music industry, but at least I only have to pay for ONE streaming platform to enjoy pretty much any song I want.

Yeah, let the country collapse under Trump, that’ll show them! I keep seeing this foolish argument over and over on Lemmy. Not sure if Reddit was this infested with naive and/or Russian trolls.

If Trump wins, everyone who didn’t vote for Biden shares the blame. When the situation in the Middle East gets worse, you’ll be to blame. When LGBTQ people get even more targeted in the US, you will be to blame.

Weasel out of it all you want, but come November, there’s really k lot two choices vote for Biden, or (in)directly help Trump.

jumjummy,

Because the November election is not the place for that. I’d absolutely love the Democrats to move further left. First step is to make sure the current Republican Party can never win again, then, it will either collapse, or move more center to gain back some voters. As the Republicans move left, it would allow a further move left for the Democrats.

The best place to move left is with local elections, not the general election when both party candidates are already selected.

jumjummy, (edited )

So are you suggesting the November General Election is the time? This is what I don’t understand about these threads. They don’t seem based in reality at all. What do you think will happen if people either don’t vote, or protest vote a 3rd party candidate? Please play that scenario out for me with a Trump win and how that solves anything.

jumjummy,

I would think that the winning move would be to impose enough tariffs to offset the foreign government subsidies, yet still promote some competition.

jumjummy,

Definitely need more subsidies or grants for domestic research. Though I don’t see the government owned company idea working mainly due to how capitalism is implemented here. The government tends to not directly compete with private entities.

Fully agree with clamping down (via higher taxes or something similar) on the giant vehicles and the loopholes they can abuse today.

jumjummy,

Make sure you fill out your Tracking And Consuming Order Sheet.

jumjummy,

Well if Ukraine falls to Russia, Estonia and some of the other Baltic states will be next.

jumjummy,

Now someone do the reverse. Putin with fake hair and an orange tan.

jumjummy,

Thinking someone is a douche and actively damaging their car are two completely different things. Not cool to damage property like that, just point and laugh or loudly exclaim how that is the ugliest looking car you’ve ever seen and you pity whoever thought it was a good idea to buy one.

jumjummy,

Missed opportunity to use the “Look at me, I’m the meme now” meme as your response to becoming the meme.

jumjummy,

What a completely foolish take. “I won’t vote for Biden, I’ll just vote for the guy who wants to be a dictator and who cares even less about Palestine”

Russian troll or a completely deluded and/or privileged person who “lived through one Trump presidency”.

I can’t begin to stress how completely, off the rails, crayon eating levels of stupidity this approach is.

jumjummy,

Ok, so vote for the guy who will literally make all of this worse. You won’t have to worry about a genocide in another part of the world because there would be some starting up right at home.

jumjummy,

There’s a difference between criticizing, protesting, etc. but that’s not what people are advocating for here. It’s either “don’t vote” or “don’t vote for Biden in the General Election”.

You see the difference right? Once that general election comes, Trump winning would be absolutely catastrophic for the US, so unless you’re a Russian plant, or one of those “let it all burn down” people, there isn’t much choice.

jumjummy,

Sadly with how the US general election works, if your not voting for Biden, it just helps Trump. You know his supporters don’t care about Israel, the Middle East, women, LGBT people, etc., so they’re not holding back.

If Trump wins, none of your rhetoric will excuse where we end up, and yes Biden and the current lobbying groups so entrenched with Israel have their share of the blame, but absolutely so do the voters who let it happen.

jumjummy,

Working on distracting from actual high speed rail projects.

After announcing increased prices, Spotify to Pay Songwriters About $150 Million Less Next Year (www.billboard.com)

When Bloomberg reported that Spotify would be upping the cost of its premium subscription from $9.99 to $10.99, and including 15 hours of audiobooks per month in the U.S., the change sounded like a win for songwriters and publishers. Higher subscription prices typically equate to a bump in U.S. mechanical royalties — but not...

jumjummy,

So instead of having the artists make the small per stream income, you suggest they get $0? Buying their releases/merch/tickets is irrelevant to the platform. If anything, the model of these streaming platforms is just further shifting to advertisement for artists to drive people to shows.

jumjummy,

Of course they do, but those suggested options are the same for Spotify users too. I’m not seeing the connection here unless you’re saying Spotify users are less likely to buy merch or tickets. Pirate what you want, but trying to spin the argument this way is just disingenuous.

Edit: and to add to this, I would argue that platforms like Spotify and other subscription models are key ways for new people to be introduced to a bad. (Short of having your song blow up on something like Tik Tok of course)

jumjummy,

My point is people saying “Spotify doesn’t pay artists enough so just pirate everything” is disingenuous. Nothing about paying for a platform (Spotify, TIDAL, Apple, YouTube, etc.) precludes you from supporting artists through other means as well.

The second point didn’t imply that this is the o ly way to discover music, but it absolutely is an avenue where many people discover new artists.

jumjummy,

Is the “Uni Party” the new “Deep State”? (From her statement in the video)

jumjummy,

So you’ll do what instead? Vote for Trump? Not vote? Throw away your vote to a 3rd party? What a naive and dangerous viewpoint.

Sad to see your “red line” isn’t electing a dictator, because that’s what will happen if Trump wins. Spare me any twisted logic of how that’s not what would happen in your scenarios.

jumjummy,

I’d much rather have something up front versus a random show scene where someone buys their kid a car, and the dialog totally shifts to what sounds just like a car commercial.

jumjummy,

I’m sure it has, but the scale and frequency is not at all comparable. I’m sure people have killed other people with a bucket.

And yes, it was sarcasm.
