    @kubikpixel Ich halte wenig von den AI Doom Szenarien. Solche leute lenkne von wirklichen Problemen ab: Bias und Garbage In, Garbage Out, die schon heute schaden.

    Umgekehrt sind Leute wie Roman Yampolskji wichtig, die mathematisch nachgewisen haben, dass AI weder erklärbarist noch wirklich kontrolliert werden kann, also AI Explainability und AI Alignment.

    Zum Einsatz: Nicht generative domänenspezifische Modelle haben guten Nutzen und sind weit performanter als die überfetteten LLMs der Hype.

    It is increasingly unclear to me what benefits there are to gateways between and other platforms. And the ways that these could go wrong are innumerable. "I have a bad feeling about this."

    @lauren most of these are protocol-converters (e.g. blueksy uses a different protocol from ActivityPub.

    Threads plans to use ActivityPub, but there are now relays to it out there.

    They come and go, same as Mastodon instances.

    While Activitypub is an official W3C standard protocol, it has serious flaws, that BlueSky's protocol adresses.

    The mastodon protocol was done by a freshly graduated comp-sci individual with apparently little experience with distributed scaleable systems.

    @lauren Observe how Bluesky scales well: Since they opened up registrations, they gained more than 2 million active users in days without a glitch. Content mod does not seem to be a major issue yet, despite the increase in users.

    So. I do not see mastodon as a sustainable major platform. it will remain niche. They also lost 60% of active users between Fall 2023 and now.

    How can Bluesky be doomed when it surpasses Mastodon users within a couple of days?

    They have a considerable mod team of over 100. I have not seen any CSAM content there, but I agree that mitigating that requires resources, which Bluesky has and mastodon, being network of hobbyists, has not. The only recourse they have is to block instances and/or subscribers. Futile imo, if the instances become viable targets for such distribution

    @lauren Oth: when you search for the hashtag nsfw, there is A LOT of CSAM content on mastodon.

    Bluesky has the advatnatge of the network effect to survive, oth, many of my followers leave it after a short time, due to lack of interaction. So, both you and me can speculate where it goes. From my more technical perspective, I see Bluesky as one of the survivors, and Mastodon not.

    @lauren "Most people have no concept of the resources needed by any significantly sized platform to meet the regulatory requirements." - that is why I mentioned Yann LeCun. Unfortunately, these regulations, as important as they are, are also a regulatory capture in favor of the large monopolists. Compute time for NLP is expensive and it is needed to comply at scale.

    @kubikpixel Zuki talks about public posts and comments. So 'private data' is the wrong frame.

    At least, Meta publishes their models open source, which improves reproducability and AI safety. Kudos to Yann LeCun for that.

    AI per se is not bad. What is bad is immense concentration of the tech inot very few super large companies.

    @kubikpixel I'd say more than skepticism. There is too much hype around these confabulating stochastic parrots. There is enough evidence out there showing that. Including btw regarding the so called code pilots.

    And companies push agressively this tech inot their corporate processes , sponsored by their internal yes-men.

    But Meta, and noteably Mistral, is an exception.

    Diese Dienste leben eben gerade ua davon. Auch wenn viele tanzende Teens sehen, sind aller Richtungen mMn die ziemlich direkt danach kommen. Viele sagen, das sei Spass aber lassen sich ohne weiteres beeinflussen 🤷‍♂️

    Es gibt nicht mal quotetoots. Und aus mMn ideologischen Gründen sind viele dagegen.

    Du schreibts oft replies zu Deinen eigenen Toots , etwa um Gedankne weiter zu spinnen. Die UX ist aber so, dass erst bei klicken auf den Zeitstempel der Verlauf sichtbar wird - ausser den vielen Fällen, wo die Software sich aufhängt beim nachlesen der verbundenen Toots.

    Blogs etc, die lange Texte zulassen sind nicht dasselbe wie threads, also interaktionen mehrerer Autoren auf einen Ursprungspost.

    Ueberlege Dir mal, warum sehr grosse Ankerprofile auf Mastodon wieder zurück auf Xitter gehen, bzw vermehrt auf Bluesky. Weil die Teile technisch funktionieren.

    @kubikpixel sehe gerade, dass Dein Instanz auf Mastodon Version 4.2,3 läuft, und meine auf 4.3.0-alpha.0+pr-28119-b84fe92. Ich interpretiere das als Alphaversion.... auf einer angeblich produktiven Instanz, nicht preview oder dass ich Dev sei.

    Deine Instanz hat 6.6k aktive user, meine 254k. Wenn ich mal die SW probleme anspreche, weisen darauf hin, dass mastodon.social eine sehr grosse Instanz sei. Ich finde 254k nutzer ein bescheidenes Mengengerüst. Daher: die SW skaliert schlecht.

    Ich habe es nicht so gemeint, betreffend ZEO, sondern allgemeiner: Wie ist es technisch möglich, verschlüsselte Inhalte durch dritte zu entschlüsseln. Ich weiss, dass es sw gibt, wie bei präzisen zargets entsprechende SW 'einspielen' kann.

    ZEO operiert aber ähnlich wie NSA, wo schlicht der ganze traffic an backbones repliziert wird.

    Dein Artikel lässt aber vermuten, dass sie solche Inhalte lesen könen, anhand diverser Antworten.

    Ich persönlich empfinde es als mysteriös, dass es bei Bluesky so lange dauert, bis es "fertig" ist. Für mich bleibt das offene Fediverse, das viel größer als nur Mastodon ist, die einzige öffentliche Kommunikation Lösung. Das erst bereit sein für angemeldete FrühuserInnen ist plumpes Marketing, da anscheinend nur Priviligierte Zugang erhalten.

    @kubikpixel Wenn Du nicht dort bist, kannst Du auch nicht sagen "und die schon früh einen erhielten auch die -Herschenden sein."

    Im Gegensatz zu Mastodon funktioniert die Site. Nach meiner Einschätzung ist die Interaktion in etwa so wie hier. Wenn das Teil hier mal funktioniert z.b. replies nachlesen geht. der login nicht erst nach drei mal refresh geht, weil zuwenig hintergrund dienste verfügbar.

    Und die Listen funktionieren.

    Jetzt kannst du weiter virtue signalling machen.

    @kubikpixel Ich bin immerhin auf dem Original Server von Mastodon....

    Des weiteren merken viele weitere die exakt gleichen Simptome an. Die Software hat nun mal seine Mängel. Die sich wohl bei grösseren Instanzen zeigen, nicht auf kleineren wie Deiner. IT DOES NOT SCALE.

    @kubikpixel ... was hat meine Replik mit sozialem Verhalten versus IT zu tun? Ausser: die Leute gehen eher dorthin, wo es tatsächlich auch technisch funktioniert.

    Seit bei Bluesky nun ohne Invite Codes angemeldet werden kann, sind über eine Million neue Nutzer hinzugekommen innert etwas mehr als 24 Stunden, und das ohne grosse Glitches. IT SCALES.
