The Whisper speech-to-text AI is suprisingly good. It skips right past the ummms and aaahs and gets a lot of words I thought for sure it wouldn’t

i'm learning that ms teams actually has decent behavior, if you configure it correctly. it's hard to find the options and in some cases it requires recompiling. so, i guess microsoft has become linux

I learned, against my will, what IBM is doing and all I can think is, “just call it a ‘layoff’ like normal companies instead of positioning it like you’re still relevant”

i’m gonna start a political band and call it “rage against the current thing”

I spent an hour trying to do a simple thing with Power BI. And basically it's learning a bunch of new terms that Microsoft just made up (query folding?!?! FML) while they ignore the data concepts of the last 20 years. And the hoops they jump through in order to obfuscate what's going on under the covers are astounding. I hate it. 1/10

@Cmastication ah yes, the layer of indirection is called DirectQuery, that makes sense

i've noticed that there's a lot of fruitful development around purely treating as black boxes and focusing on prompt engineering + the ReAct pattern. Simply forcing the LLM to draw out it's thoughts over more text increases it's accuracy, and if you also interleave that with input from the user or calls to external services, e.g. Google, you can achieve very interesting results

@mnl so many. What do you want to know about?

The main thing is LangChain https://github.com/hwchase17/langchain

kellogh,
@kellogh@hachyderm.io avatar

@mnl i originally assumed that the best answers would be in fine-tuning it. But the more I see, it doesn't actually buy you that much and it's really hard. Further, something clicked for me, when we teach kids more complex concepts like math, we also break the problems down, effectively creating a language problem out of a math problem, which is what's going on with Chain of Thoughts. My intuition is that there's a whole lot more we can squeeze out of this without improving the models

kellogh,
@kellogh@hachyderm.io avatar

@mnl yeah, if we could get something on ChatGPT's level, but running locally, that would be 🔥

kellogh,
@kellogh@hachyderm.io avatar

@mnl how does vicuna compare to llama? i assumed they'd be pretty similar

kellogh,
@kellogh@hachyderm.io avatar

@mnl oh, that's hot

kellogh,
@kellogh@hachyderm.io avatar

@mnl have you played around with vector databases? might be too complex for you, but it's worth thinking about...

kellogh,
@kellogh@hachyderm.io avatar

@mnl have you had any success getting vicuna/llama to summarize text? maybe that's not what you're doing...

kellogh,
@kellogh@hachyderm.io avatar

@mnl the new one from today?

alright, i'm gonna say it. ChatGPT is not very good at writing prompts for Stable Diffusion
