By the way, my family's monthly health insurance payment is around $3,500 an month. And our deductible is what? Twice that? I need to double check that.
But it's insane. Even with Obamacare, it's still insane.
And the insurance company gets to override what my doctors say should be part of my recovery care.
@kristinHenry part of today's stand-up meeting was people on my team asking me which Linux distro I use on my home desktop/laptop because people know I don't use Windows
I asked what caused the question and it was Recall which caused those that heard the news to get others who hadn't to understand the implications of it.
I'm just so happy to be alive, and that I might actually be Cancer free. Yeah, yeah, more tests before it's sure....but I might actually be cancer free now!
So, if I'm even more socially awkward than usual, please forgive me...and celebrate with me!
Even if it turns out I might actually need Chemo....I'm gonna focus on the recovery I'm in now.
Plus, seems like everyone in my medical care team keeps saying things like "You're young!"
After working in tech, and being a woman-over-30 in the world in general....this medical perspective on my age is ....ummm...liberating and empowering!
Part of getting the new community instance (datavis.social) up and running was deciding on my profile header. I went with an IterativeArt piece I created with code and the text "F*ck Cancer".
I started working on this piece in the days after my diagnosis but before going in for surgery. Even with my frustrations and scary emotions about Cancer, that I was feeling at the time, I still wanted to make the piece beautiful. As usual :)
I sure wish I could see this amazing aurora, but the fog is rolling in over Twin Peaks, and it's still unlikely that it will be active by the time it's dark here? It's not likely.
I'll still go outside, just in case, after dark tonight.
I've been working on a new community instance for the past few months. It's still a work-in--progress, but is ready for a slow opening.
So, if you feel constrained by the on-topic nature of our Local Timeline here on vis.social, or you don't want to CW your posts that mention AI tech, you might be happier on the new instance: datavis.social
Can you stay here on vis.social and ALSO have an account on datavis.social? Yes!
@kristinHenry is the intention to auto-flag posts based on keywords? Because I'm curious to know where the line is drawn with respect to the AI CW policy: is "linear regression" something that should be tagged as AI? "Principal Component Analysis"? "Dimensionality reduction"? "Binary classifier"? or is it specifically about the tools that are owned/created by companies like ChatGPT, MidJourney, HuggingFace APIs, etc. In the former case, I worry that this restricts a lot of solidly on-topic work
A lot of Generative artists, like myself, have struggled with the whole hype taking over the term.
Some folks have suggested "Procedural" and just completely dropping the term "Generative". Which saddens me so much, and it doesn't really speak to me somehow.
Right now, I'm leaning toward "Iterative" for my art. It works for both my code-created pieces and my hand drawn pieces...well, it works in my brain. :)
If you're interested in any of my drawings, I'm starting to list more of them now. I'll be posting them on my artatomic account: https://artatomic.social/@KristinHenry
