Yeah, maybe not the horndog part, but the rest checks out if you read between the lines.

At work, if you have the option, consider using KeePassXC or similar software. That will give you a properly encrypted file with secrets and also password-manager features.

What happens if you redirect all traffic to a sinkhole, rather than to 127.0.0.1? Do the devices still freak out when they talk to a web server which returns a 404? Just morbidly curious…

Wot The Fsck You Say, Spotify? (lemmy.world)

Edit: A couple times I’ve said eBook while I actually meant Audiobook. I’ve learned that Spotify has a 15 hour limit per month for their free ‘included in premium’ audiobooks. However these are the two books I listened to for free, and even rounding up to 13 hours it doesn’t make sense, unless they count accidental...

I was actually confused about your response to grahamsz@kbin.social… it seems like they have at least a basic understanding of how registrars vs. DNS hosts work.

krnl386,
@krnl386@lemmy.ca avatar

Huh? You mean you can’t separate the domain registrar from your DNS service provider?

I have my .ca domains on Porkbun, but DNS is hosted through Cloudflare. Porkbun supports DNSSEC records as well, so that’s not really an issue, just a few extra steps.

I seriously need to look into Paperless NGX. I’ve been hearing a lot about it.

Orion browser for macOS and iOS/iPadOS (browser.kagi.com)

I’ve been testing the Orion browser for macOS and iOS/iPasOS for a few days. It’s WebKit-based, and Apple OS exclusive. First impressions are positive, although I haven’t put it through its paces (check multi-device iCloud settings sync, push tabs to its limits, dig into exactly how it protects privacy by syncing through...

Bitwarden extension for Firefox loads but doesn’t seem able to autofill… but it works (note: I have a self-hosted VaultWarden server, not BitWarden’s cloud service).

Maybe uBlock Origin will work? It seems to be advertised on their website.

Given that this thing is a beta and based on functionality so far, I am impressed. I wish there were a way to tweak the built-in ad and tracker blockers (e.g., add/remove custom lists), but this is already impressive for the iOS/iPadOS walled garden.

Yup, I’m a proud subscriber of that community. Not sure that it has to do with this browser thread though.

This is gonna be a controversial take, but to be honest when PHP first started out, it’s killer feature was that it was a hypertext preprocessor. PHP is a Hypertext Preprocessor was the original recursive acronym (that was all the rage in the 90’s and early 2000’s). Arguably that feature also encouraged terrible coding practices, but I digress.

Nowadays PHP is a dime in a dozen managed, dual-personality OOP/procedural hybrid interpreted language.

So yeah, if I were to start a new project today, I would not choose PHP.

Do you get better numbers with Windows on the same PC?

krnl386,

Neat! Nice of them to do that. It seems to be a few releases behind, though.

I haven’t tried it yet, but on the desktop I intend to try the PWA with Brave browser. In terms of privacy, it’s hard to beat on any platform.

It’s a pretty standard price in Toronto for a bag this size. If you’re local, you may be able to get a better deal if you visit the store in person. It’s a very nice lounge with 80-90s music (on vinyl!) and a friendly vibe.

krnl386,
@krnl386@lemmy.ca avatar

Oh, I think it’s worth the price, as long as you manage expectations of what you’re buying. This is by no means a fancy/experimental light/medium roast (like deMello, another Toronto-area roaster) with lots of complex notes and flavours… the “42” is definitely a classic Italian base with a good aroma to it. It’s a post-roast blend, and it seems to me like at least 2, maybe 3 different roasts. 2/3 dark, with 1/3 medium/light beans, just based off casual observation.

krnl386,
@krnl386@lemmy.ca avatar

I haven’t tried many of their coffees yet. If you like fruity, acidic notes, De Mello Ethiopia Bensa may be for you.
