I’d take “works perfectly” with a grain of salt. “Doesn’t die and continues to grow after thawing” is more accurate, IMHO.

His analysis and analogies are actually pretty good, except he ruins it all with his cringy intro and outro. That’s disappointing.

Good old git blame lol! Not only can you determine when the change was made and where, it’s trivial to look up the author of the commit: github.com/…/562e0d570d93cfcfdebab1215a2f04efa64a…

To be fair, the author’s first language may not be English…

Is anyone interested in submitting a pull request? Looks like Github contributions are accepted.

Grievance-based identity… Interesting that it is attributed by the author to straight white males; on the right “oppression olympics”, i.e., grievance-based identity, is attributed predominantly to the left.

The Orion browser for iOS/iPadOS supports both Firefox and Chromium extensions, however, the support is quite buggy and limited. Nonetheless, a valiant effort by Orion devs.

I’ve been using the self-hosted open source version for just over a year now for personal use (friends and family). I’m pretty happy with it.

Has anyone tried the commercial version with the web interface?

Interactive (i.e. end-users) Clients should be using OAuth instead of app passwords. This will allow your users to use their own Office365 credentials for SMTP.

For servers and non-interactive clients (e.g. copiers/printers/toasters/coffee makers) I would suggest something along the lines here: …microsoft.com/…/how-to-set-up-a-multifunction-de…

I presume these are filesystem UUIDs. I also presume from your other post, that you used a live USB to fix nvidia drivers? Note that nvidia driver installers/packages trigger a initrd rebuild, and if you do that in a live environment, it’s possible that you will get the UUID of your live USB filesystem and not your actual boot drive… at least that’s my guess.

If you booted into a live USB you need to make sure that you chroot into your install on your disk whenever doing any operations on the boot loader. That involves mounting your actual disk (eg, /dev/nvme0p1) somewhere on the live USB (eg, /mnt/example), then bind-mounting the proc, sys, dev, tempfs filesystems under /mnt/example/proc, /mnt/example/sys, etc. You may also need to mount /efi under /mnt/example/efi or boot/efi (wherever you have it in your system). Next, chroot to /mnt/example. You should now have a fully functional install you normally boot into, with the only difference being that the kernel booted off the USB drive. Now you can try reinstalling drivers, rebuilding initrd, reconfiguring the bootloader, etc. Since you’re chrooted, the system should see the proper UUIDs, in theory…

If you want a more comprehensive tutorial on how to do this, look for bootloader fixing tutorials.

Is there an IT policy at your school? I suggest perusing it for 2 reasons:

  1. Understanding the consequences of tampering/tinkering with the spyware.
  2. Understanding how much authority the IT department really has, and whether or not what they’re doing with the spyware constitutes overreach.

#2 in particular is for your own knowledge/benefit. Since you’re not an employee, but a student, you may have some inherent rights under this policy, which the IT department may be violating.

Ah, I was indeed using an older PWA release! Wow, thanks for implementing that!!!

higher wages for the servers... by the customers. Fnbs (lemmy.world)

Went to a restaurant in LA today and when I got the check I noticed that it was a bit higher than it should be. Then I noticed this 18% service charge. So… We, as customers, need to help pay for their servers instead of the owners paying their servers a living wage. And on top of that they have suggested tip. I called bs on...

It’s LA, so I assume there are plenty of douchy “haute cuisine” wannabe places that charge $50 for a handful of steamed rice served in a styrofoam coffee cup under the name “Riz Derelicte” or some stupid shit like that.

That’s a pretty hefty solution. Gitlab is a monster nowadays…

GOGS, Gitea/Forgejo can do 90% of what Gitlab does and are much lighter.

OneDrive is unusable in Linux

Look into rclone mounts, assuming your org allows you to use rclone with OneDrive and SharePoint Online.

There’s also this open source, and commercial client, but I haven’t used them myself.

Yeah that kind of puts things in perspective, doesn’t it? Imaging building a career as a grocery clerk in a non-unionized environment. No way that could ever happen! I mean the fact that someone with basically a high school education can have a stable job for decades is… something.

I’ve had a similar experience myself. I bought a Japanese handcrafted knife.

I think using Brave, just by virtue of ad blocking, probably isn’t worse than using Safari. I use Brave on iOS myself.

No one product, but more of a collection of technologies underlying the Apple ecosystem. For example, AirDrop or Continuity (drafting something on one device and continuing/finishing on another).

This is just cringe. You realize the term “master race” in this context is derived from “PC master race” which in turn was coined as part of the console gamers vs. PC gamers rivalry, i.e. the “console ‘tards” vs. “PC gamer master race”… sigh…

This take is as cringy as gamergate, TBH.
