Those hilarious "Lightning" earbuds that are really just Bluetooth devices tethered to the cable for power remind me of a device I was seriously considering making at one point: a battery pack with a USB cable for power that would snap into the bottom of an Apple Magic Mouse to make it into a "wired" mouse, but the USB cable only provided power.
@nyquildotorg check out this video I found a while back where someone tries to fix the Magic Mouse, including your idea of adding a charge port in an accessible place. It does not go well!
@nyquildotorg oh yes, you were thinking about the earlier slightly-more-reasonable AA battery Magic Mouse, not this silly revised one with the bottom-facing charge port.
@andycarolan oh wow, you just reminded me that I bought this game on eBay very cheaply years ago and then totally forgot about it and never actually played it yet 👀👀👀
McDonalds was already an advertising juggernaut by that point. No kids have ever begged their parents to go to A&W to get a burger, which means the parents don't need to buy a bigger burger.
@suetanvil@nyquildotorg came here to say the same thing. Canadian A&W (which is totally unrelated to US A&W) is top tier fast food and my kids definitely ask for it more than McDonalds.
I’m pretty sure they diverged in the 90s, which Canadians might remember as the return of the “Burger Family” era.
Like 10-15 years ago I was making fun of how horribly named Amazon's menu of cloud computing products are.
Everything has a cutesy name that doesn't tell you what it is. For instance, they can't just call it DNS, they call it Route53 instead and you're just expected to know that.
In a post on Google+ I listed three real ones and a fake one I made up to see if anyone would notice (nobody did) however, the one I made up is real now.
I'm not taking credit or anything, and I don't know what either my fake one or the real one would even do, but its name is "LightSail."
(I'm not asking what it does; I'd prefer to remain awestruck and ignorant about the change I accidentally manifested.)
I started to like the jazz music that plays in my favourite coffee shop, so I now listen to whatever chill jazz I can find while driving as it helps to keep me calm. I’m open to recommendations if anyone has any artists, tracks or playlists to share! #jazz#music
@andycarolan they cover a lot of different genres but I have discovered so much great jazz (especially international artists) from the My Analog Journal YouTube channel. I can especially recommend their 70’s Japanese jazz/fusion sets, which are a goldmine for incredible music. https://www.youtube.com/@MyAnalogJournal
@andycarolan I’ve recently started just making cookies any time I want cookies. “Making things from scratch” was way more overwhelming in my head than it actually is, once I got over that mental hurdle. It doesn’t even take that long!
Is the definition for “anymore” drifting? It feels like I’m seeing an increase of sentences like “The burger was great! I’m gonna go there once a week anymore.” where it’s a positive indicator instead of the negative use I’m used to.
🔥Hot take:
It's not a "free trial" if I have to pick a plan & give my credit card & get billed the second the trial ends.
This is delayed billing. I'm paying with the effort it will take to remember to reassess at the end of the trial & manually cancel if I didn't like it. I'm paying by giving you my credit card info. I'm paying with reminder burden.
@syntaxseed aren’t there specifically laws for this kind of stuff in Quebec? I’m pretty sure that’s why free trials work differently (or are not available) there.
@emelie I did this once, one digit typo so it was just down the street. I luckily realized it before the delivery date so when the tracking said it was out I watched the window all day for the delivery truck to drive by. Then I ran over to the house, grabbed the package off their porch, and left a note in the mailbox with my name and address explaining what happened (in case they had cameras or something and spotted me).
