I'm sure it's costly but damn I wish more things on youtube would actually WRITE their captions instead of me having to rely on auto-generated subtitles that I KNOW are wrong

(Don't ask me why I don't need transcripts for podcasts because I don't know the answer I just assume it has something to do with autism)

Oh my god I didn't even fucking notice before that auto generated captions won't write out swears. I'm laughing in disbelief.

Do they think the only people who are d/Deaf , Hard of Hearing, or otherwise need captions are like, literally 7???? :psyduck:​ :zagmad:​

I would still think it bullshit if it censored it with like, stars but in a way you knew what was said, but it'd be better than the current approach of:

"🤗 here's a gap where someone said Fuck. or maybe it was Shit. or Damn. YOU FIGURE IT OUT 🖕"

Like I don't think I'm the appropriate person to write this essay (Though to be clear I am also treated this way) but there's a LOT someone could say about infantilization and disability, and tie Youtube's auto-captions to it.

For context this is from a discussion I was having and I couldn't come up with an answer.

If you were say, trying to get into the dating game or wanted to meet new friends.

would you disclose before hand or early on that you were autistic? (I count Self-DX but I do realize that could change the conversation)

Like I do realize allistic people can (Subconsciously) be jerks to autistic people if they perceive a difference, and I'm wondering if that would be worse if they outright KNEW you were autistic.

Please give me some input this question is eating me up inside lol

Sent my agent out on a quest to find an audiobook publisher with a producer on the team or at least running the publisher. Couldn't find one, so we're now pondering over 2 offers. One from Recorded Books and the other, Audible. It's a shame, as I really wanted to support a Blind team but oh well! I like Recorded books production quality better but Audible is offering the better deal, so now it's negotiating time!

Genuine Question About Mastodon:

Is there an actually good Reason we can't put both polls and photos in the same post? Like, the code will crumble apart (THIS is what causes mastodon to crumble), or is this like with why Website Boy won't allow local only federation because he thinks it will be too confusing?

Just gonna point out: I know Spaghetti Code TUMBLR allows you to do this, and I Think :birdsite:​ allows you to. And if I'm right about the latter, I'm surprised Website Boy hasn't copied that.

    It'd be nice if in 2024 the ADA grew some teeth.

    I don't think there's a single city that's remotely ADA compliant.

    What I mean if you didn't know: when the ADA passed, regarding sidewalks, this wasn't a "oh you have to redo all your sidewalks immediately how unfair :(" it was literally "When you redo your sidewalk make it compliant" and my understanding is every city in the US went "we'll pay fines instead"

    @weirdwriter I don't think he's done anything new ( though the Threads thing is funny) I mean I don't see him much on my timeline anymore because elekk is defederated from Social and Online.

    I think part of it is my frustration that when I joined (2017?) he was advertising it as having solutions to Twitter's problem and I think all the things he promised were either bullshit or vastly overblown. Which is just disappointing because I have a lot of people I consider friends on mastodon--but I just wish it was better you know?
